    Session Topics

    November 2: Spooky Forest Survival
Students explore the animals and survival strategies that make the fall woods feel mysterious, including predators, prey, camouflage, and night creatures. They’ll play movement-based food web and predator/prey games using forest clues.

    November 9: Mystery Animal Cases
Students become wildlife detectives by examining tracks, scat photos or cards, feathers, chewed nuts, nests, holes, and other animal evidence. They’ll solve mini mystery cases to figure out who was there, what they were doing, and how they survived.

November 16: Hidden Homes and Secret Spaces
Students investigate the tucked-away places animals use to rest, hide, escape predators, and survive colder weather, such as tree cavities, brush piles, logs, burrows, rock gaps, and evergreen cover. They’ll search for shelter clues on the trail, match animals to hidden homes, and create mini “secret spaces” that protect a toy animal from wind, weather, and predators.

    November 23: Shelter Builder Challenge
Students investigate how animals use shelters to stay safe, warm, hidden, and dry. They’ll build tiny animal shelters or larger debris shelters and test them against wind, rain, and temperature challenges.

November 30: Cold Weather Survival Lab
Students explore how people and animals stay warm when temperatures drop. They’ll test insulation, compare wet and dry materials, practice smart clothing choices, and learn simple outdoor safety skills for cold weather.

December 7: First Signs of Winter
Students explore how the forest changes as cold weather settles in, looking for bare branches, evergreen plants, animal signs, frost, frozen ground, wind patterns, and quiet places in the woods. They’ll go on a “first signs of winter” trail hunt, compare what is still active with what has gone quiet, and create a simple winter woods map or group mural of what they discovered.
