The MTI Solidarity Fund is a member-funded, interest-free loan for Union siblings in financial need due to unexpected circumstances.
- The maximum amount that can be requested is $750.
- Repayment via payroll deduction must begin no later than three (3) months after receipt.
- Payments must be in equal deducatoins over eighteen (18) months or less.
- Borrowers must be members in good standing with at least two months of dues paid.
- Loans are not available to members with an outstanding balance.
- Approval is contingent on a repayment schedule and identity verification.
* The MTI Executive Director may approve reduced amount based on circumstances and the availability of funds.
HISTORY: The MTI Solidarity Fund was originally established in 1996 to assist MTI members who lost pay due to participating in job actions to support contract negotiations. The Solidarity Fund is the result of donations made by MTI members, MTI staff and other Unions, to support the efforts of MTI members who were willing to make a sacrifice to advance the cause.

Since its creation, the Fund has remained available by donations, and access has been ex-tended to help MTI members who have experienced unforeseen financial hardship. Simply being unable to pay bills, for example, is not sufficient. However, an unexpected reason such as job loss in the family, illness, injury or a natural disaster is more likely to be approved.

SOLIDARITY FUND LOAN REPAYMENT
While your loan from the MTI Solidarity Fund is interest free, to assure that the Union has funds to assist other MTI members in the future, the Union requires that no later than three (3) months after receipt of the loan, that repayment be made via payroll deduction, and that such be in equal installments for no greater than eighteen (18) months.
