Businesses and organizations may set up on Main Street to pass out candy or other family-friendly items. Participation is free and Chamber membership is not required.

Businesses located downtown will automatically be placed in front of their own business. All other participants will be assigned a location on Main Street.

A setup map and final instructions will be emailed before the event. Participants may use tables, chairs and family-friendly decorations.

Please plan for approximately 1,000 children and remain set up for the entire event.

Open to any business, organization or group. If you are bringing a large vehicle or a trailer, choose Main Street rather than Trunk-or-Treat. The bank parking lot cannot fit oversized vehicles.

No storefront on Main Street? This is for you. Trunk-or-Treat was added in 2025 so groups, organizations and households could join in, not just downtown businesses. You decorate a vehicle and hand out candy from it.

It is located in the First National Bank parking lot, and is open to any business, organization, family or individual.

Participation is free and Chamber membership is not required.

Bringing a truck, a trailer or anything oversized? Choose Main Street instead. The bank lot cannot fit large vehicles. Please tell us what you are bringing so we can set aside the space.

Displays and items handed out must be family-friendly. Please plan for approximately 1,000 children and remain set up for the entire event.

The scarecrow contest is back. Build one and we will hang it from a light pole on Main Street for the whole town to see. Two prizes: Community Favorite, and Best Overall Scarecrow. The community votes for the winners on social media, so make it good.

Rules:

How to attach it: twine or zip ties only. No wire and no tape. Nothing else damages the light poles the way those two do. Also: must be family friendly, no taller than 8 feet, your name or business name marked using a sign, no generators or tiki torches, and nothing political, religious or controversial.

The Chamber/City of Dell Rapids is not responsible for loss or damage. We reserve the right to remove any scarecrows we deem inappropriate.

Scarecrows to be assembled on between noon on Thursday, October 29 and noon on Friday, October 30 and removed on November 1 by 5pm.

Sponsorship pays for the contest prizes, games and giveaways on the night, so the more we raise the more there is for families to do.

Printed materials closed on October 9. A logo received after that date will appear on the A-frame signs downtown, the Main Street map and online, rather than in print.
