Session Proposal

Deadline to submit: Friday, October 16, 2026 at 6pm Eastern

We invite proposals that bring evidence-based, clinically relevant content to the forefront of Interventional Pulmonology and Advanced Bronchoscopy. Submissions that are innovative, interactive (such as workshops or sessions incorporating audience response systems), and that address multidisciplinary collaborations with comprehensive approaches to diagnostic and therapeutic procedural and pharmacologic advances will be given priority during the selection process.

The AABIP 2027 scientific program will highlight six core areas:

• Advanced Diagnostic Bronchoscopy
• Airway-based Therapeutics
• Pleural Diseases
• Medical Education
• Innovation and Entrepreneurship
• Miscellaneous (including quality improvement, reimbursement, health care access and equity, and gender and racial equity)

As we expand the scope of discussion in 2027, we encourage proposals that explore how pharmacologic advancements contribute to clinical practice and patient care in Interventional Pulmonology.

Proposal Review & Program Development

All submissions are considered proposals and serve as a starting point for development of the AABIP Annual Conference program. The Scientific Program Committee will review submissions collectively and may combine similar proposals or modify session titles, descriptions, formats, learning objectives, subtopics, faculty, or other elements to create a cohesive final program.

As part of this process, the Committee strives to create a diverse and balanced faculty and generally aims to limit individuals to no more than two faculty roles across the final program. Faculty suggested within a proposal are therefore considered recommendations and may be adjusted during final program development.

Submission of a proposal does not guarantee acceptance of the session, content, or proposed faculty as submitted.

SESSION FORMAT DESCRIPTIONS:

• Plenary: 2-3 speakers, 45-minutes
• Other Formats: 3-4 speakers, 60-minutes

Plenary: Keynote speaker or expert speaker panel of two to three speakers with a formal presentation on a broad topic relevant to the entire conference delegation. Session will be 45 minutes in duration.

Year in Review: For both fields of a) Pleural disease and b) Therapeutic / Advanced Bronchoscopy. These two separate sessions will focus on reviewing the most important and clinically relevant papers published within the last year. Two speakers are suggested for each session. 

State-of-the-Art Review: Current state of knowledge about a topic and future direction for research with a discussion of how the understanding of the particular topic has changed over time

Panel Discussion: An expert panel of 3-4 speakers on a topic area with brief presentations followed by moderated discussion

Meet the Professor: Sessions with renowned researchers and clinicians that allow the exchange on knowledge via brief and meaningful presentations and informal discussions.

Problem or Case-Based Learning: learner-centered session with one-on-one interaction between participants and speakers as they build their knowledge and work together as a group to examine the case or problem

Technical Procedural Video Reviews (formerly known as How I do it): A well-known expert presents a challenging bronchoscopic/pleural case(s), going through step-by-step planning, approach and rationale. Images and procedural videos are highly encouraged. Audience participates by choosing next steps using ARS. It will require 2-3 cases/session.

Pro-Con Debate: Practical questions and controversies are explored by expert presentation of opposing views
