Happy Meteorological Fall, AVIRT Volunteers!
We are heading back to Pavilion Lake for the last several volunteer days this year. Next up: Sunday, September 13, 9am to 11am.
As most of you know, our invasive removal efforts have focused on Pavilion Lake more than any other location. Why?
Our goal is to make it the first invasives-free lake in Loudoun.
The county gave us a grant for $50,000 to help us remove the most difficult/largest invasives.- The lake gets about 10,000 visitors a year, which makes it the best site to educate people about invasive and native plants.
- Since our March volunteer day at the lake, Bradford pear and white mulberry saplings have sprung up, and bush honeysuckles we missed are getting ready to drop seeds. We need to ensure our efforts of the past two years are maintained by removing these plants.
Join us to learn how to identify the three species and how to use the cut stump method to kill them. And enjoy a beautiful (meteorological) fall morning with your Ashburn Village neighbors and friends!
