• Call for Artists & Creatives: Art + Justice

  • Overview

The Create Commission is building a growing network of artists and creatives who are using their gifts to engage some of the most pressing and complex issues facing our communities.

We are looking to connect with artists working in areas such as:

    • Refugee and immigrant communities
    • Foster care and child welfare
    • Prison, incarceration and reentry
    • Trauma, abuse and domestic violence
    • Homelessness and housing insecurity
    • Mental health and community wellness
    • Racial reconciliation and cultural identity
    • Poverty and economic inequality
    • Disability and accessibility
    • Human trafficking and exploitation
    • Other areas of justice, healing and community transformation

We are interested in artists across disciplines, including visual artists, musicians, photographers, filmmakers, writers, performers, designers, teaching artists and multidisciplinary creatives.

    Your work might include:

    • Leading workshops or creative experiences within communities
    • Creating artwork that explores a particular social issue or lived experience
    • Using storytelling, photography, film or design to help organizations communicate their work
    • Developing collaborative art projects with community members
    • Creating public art or installations
    • Facilitating spaces for reflection, healing, dialogue or connection
    • Using your creative practice to advocate, educate or bring attention to an issue
    • Partnering directly with nonprofits, ministries or community organizations

Why We Are Building This Network?

Many organizations are doing extraordinary work within their communities but may not know how to meaningfully incorporate artists and creativity into that work.

At the same time, many artists feel called to use their creative gifts in service of people and communities but may not know where those opportunities exist.

The Create Commission exists to help bridge that gap.

We are developing a curated list of artists and creatives that we can draw from as opportunities emerge with nonprofit organizations, churches, ministries and other community partners.

This could lead to opportunities such as workshops, commissions, storytelling projects, exhibitions, public art, community engagement projects, artist residencies and other creative collaborations.

    This is an Ongoing Call

    There is no application deadline.

Submitting your information does not guarantee a project or paid opportunity. Rather, it allows The Create Commission to learn more about you, your creative practice and the communities or issues you care deeply about.

As opportunities arise, we may contact artists whose experience, interests and creative practice align with a particular organization or project.

If you believe art can help people be seen, stories be heard, communities heal and meaningful change take root, we would love to know about your work.
