Requirements:
Each entry must be delivered to the Trussville Public Library between October 13 and October 16 during operating hours. No entries can be accepted after October 16.
Each entry must be clearly tagged or labeled with the Team Name and must have this registration form submitted. We don't want to lose or misidentify anyone's hard work.
Each entry must be completely handmade and crafted by a team of at least 2 children who are in the same grade. Teams in grades 3 - 6 are invited to participate. While adults are expected to help, adults are not allowed to actively influence the design and creation. Adults may be needed to assist with construction, but this should be at the direction of the team.
Each entry must be securely attached to a pole/stake running the length of the Scarecrow and longer to allow for securing into the ground, and be durable enough for outdoor display for the duration of the exhibit. The Library will not supply stakes or poles and will not accept scarecrows without a stake or pole.
Height: the Scarecrow itself should not exceed 4 feet ( 48"). The pole should be longer to allow for securing into the ground.
Scarecrows must be family-friendly (not too scary or gory, and not-political).
Judging Criteria:
Each Scarecrow will be eligible for:
- Community Favorites awarded by grade level (based on votes by the people who attend the exhibit)

Judges Awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd) by grade level: an independent team of judges across the fields of engineering, art, leadership, and social sciences will judge each entry on the following criteria and select a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for each grade. (20 possible points)
- Creativity (5 possible points) unique, original concept, new idea; does the scarecrow tell a story or evoke an idea?
- Design (5 possible points) technique, materials used. Recycled materials and clever re-uses of old materials are strongly encouraged.
- Construction (5 possible points) Structural integrity. Can your scarecrow withstand the elements? Judging will take place near mid-way through the exhibit.
- Overall Impression (5 possible points) Judges will be looking for that little bit extra. Whether it's in the materials used, the way the scarecrow has been made, how it sits in the environment, or an ingenious concept.
- Winners will be announced on the Trussville Library website, Facebook, and Instagram accounts on the morning of Saturday, October 31.
- Winning teams will be invited to visit the library as a group and have a photo taken with their award. Photos may be shared with local media, on the Trussville Library website, and social media accounts. Each child on the winning teams will receive an award. Awards are to-be-decided and may be a ribbon or small trophy.
What happens to the Scarecrows after the exhibit?
Scarecrows that do not survive the elements for the duration of the exhibit will be discarded and they will no longer be eligible to receive votes from the community. We will alert the team's adult contact if this happens.
If the team wishes to pick up their Scarecrow, they may be removed at any time between Sunday, November 1st and 3:00 pm Monday, November 2nd. All remaining Scarecrows will be removed and discarded after 3:00 pm on Monday, November 2nd.
