TOURNAMENT RULES

 

Flag Sparring (6 and under)

In the Flag Sparring Divison, each competitor will get a set of 4 colored flags. They will continuously pull off their opponents flags. They may pull off more than one flag at a time. The competitor who pulls off the most flags within 60 seconds wins. Voting and Decisions: Referees and judges have 1 vote each. Majority vote determines point, warning or disqualification. Target Area: Head and body above the belt, points are not scored for strikes to the back. No groin strikes. Legal Techniques: Punching, kicking and grabbing are all valid techniques. Sweeping the front leg is legal within 3 seconds.

 

Kata

There will be 3 judges per ring. Each judge will award 8 to 9 points (with tenth point increments - i.e 8.2). In the event of a tie the judges will make the final decision. If a competitor forgets a move in his or her kata, or freezes during the kata, then they may choose to do it over but they will be judged accordingly. 

 

 

Point Sparring

You cannot spar without hand, foot, head and mouth protectors. Groin protectors for males are preferred but not required. The sparring matches will be 8 points or the most points within 2 minutes wins. The majority determines a point, warning, or disqualification. There will be 1 point given for each punch or kick for controlled or light contact to the body. There will be no point for uncontrolled or heavy contact. For uncontrolled or heavy contact to the face, you will be given a warning. If given a 2nd warning, the opposing opponent gets a penalty point. If given a 3rd warning, you will be automatically disqualified. In case of a tie, there is a sudden death (the next point wins). The target area is the head and body. No face, groin or spine contact is allowed. Sweeping the front foot only is legal with 3 seconds allowed to score after a grab or foot sweep. There will be automatic disqualification for sweeping the back leg, bruising, bleeding, unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting and Judo type throws. Sideline coaching is not prohibited. However, instructors trying to coach while on the judging panel is prohibited. 

 

Weapons

WEAPONS ONLY! No extreme, XMA or music allowed.

I, the undersigned, hereby acknowledge that I am aware of and I fully appreciate the nature of the premises of this martial arts competition. Of the physical activity in which I have requested to be allowed to participate and of the danger of death or injury by my participation therein and I knowingly, deliberately, and voluntarily choose to expose myself thereto. I assume all risks therein and I solemnly covenant, contract and agree, that if I am injured thereby, I have hereby released, or I will, without the tender of payment of any other or futher consideration whatsoever, release, indemnify, save and hold harmless from liability, any official associations, corporation, promoter or anyone involved in said competition. I assume full and sole responsibility for death or injurty to my person. I have read the foregoing or it has been read to me, understand the same, and agree to abide by all rules promulgated and to be promulgated by the officials and presenters of this competition. 

 

For the consideration stated above, I/We parent(s) or legal guardian(s) of the minor named above consent to and approve of his/her participation in the competition. I covenant, contract, and agree to indemnify, save and hold the competition, any official, competitor, association, corporations, promoter, or anyone involved in said competition from any loss, cost, liability, or responsibility whatsoever arising directly or indirectly, out of any injury or death that said minor might sustain as a result of participation.
