Rescue Readers gives children ages 6-12 the opportunity to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to shelter animals. It's a fun, low-pressure way for young readers to build confidence while providing enrichment and companionship to animals in our care.

Please review the following with your child before participating.
I understand that my child must follow all instructions provided by Edmond Animal Services staff while participating in Rescue Readers.

I understand that participants may be in proximity to shelter animals and that animals can behave unpredictably, even when appropriate safety precautions are taken

I understand that participants may only interact with animals designated by Edmond Animal Services staff and may not open kennels, cages, gates, or animal enclosures without staff authorization.

I understand that a parent or legal guardian must remain responsible for the child during their Rescue Readers visit and follow all program and facility rules.

I understand that Edmond animal Services staff may end or modify an interaction at any time for the safety or welfare of the child or animal.

I agree to notify staff immediately if my child is uncomfortable, frightened, injured, or otherwise needs assistance.

Program Expectations
To help keep Rescue Readers safe and fun for everyone, we ask our readers to:
Use calm, indoor voices around the animals.
Follow staff instructions at all times.
Be kind and respectful to our animals.
Never enter or open an animal enclosure without permission.
Remain with their parent/guardian as directed.
Arrive on time for their scheduled reading session.
Photo & Media Permission
Edmond Animal Services may occasionally photograph or record Rescue Readers activities for educational, promotional, or social media purposes.
