INFORMED CONSENT TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH Investigator: Carissa Lucky, Carissa.Lucky@email.saintleo.edu and (407) 963-3299 Title of Study: VOICES AT THE TABLE: EXPERIENCES OF MINORITY WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP IN THE TECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY Purpose of Study: You are being asked to participate in a research study designed to explore the lived experiences of minority women in formal leadership roles in the technology industry. This study seeks to understand how the intersection of race and gender shapes your perceptions of organizational culture, your sense of leadership competence and professional credibility, and how those experiences influence your engagement and decision to remain in the technology sector. Your voice and perspective are central to this research, and your participation will contribute to a growing body of scholarship that takes seriously the professional realities of minority women in technology leadership. Procedures: You will be asked to complete a pre-interview demographic form to confirm eligibility, once confirmed you will participate in one individual interview conducted via Zoom video conferencing, lasting approximately 60 to 90 minutes. During the interview, you will be asked open-ended questions about your professional experiences as a minority woman in a technology leadership role, including questions about your perceptions of organizational culture, your experiences establishing and maintaining professional credibility, your sense of your own leadership competence, and the factors that have shaped your engagement and decision to remain in the technology industry. You may keep your camera on during the interview if you wish, to support rapport and eye contact, but only the audio will be recorded. The video feed will not be recorded or saved at any point. The audio recording will be used solely to produce an accurate written transcript of your responses. Following the interview, you will receive a written summary of your responses via email. You will be asked to review this summary and let the researcher know whether it accurately reflects what you shared, and to note any corrections or clarifications you would like to make. This review is estimated to take approximately 15 to 30 minutes. Your feedback during this review process is an important part of ensuring that the research accurately represents your experience. Your total time commitment for both the interview and the review is estimated to be between 75 and 125 minutes. All interviews will be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you, and you may participate from any private location of your choosing. Benefits: Participation in this study may not provide direct personal benefits to you. However, some participants may find value in having a dedicated space to reflect on and articulate their professional experiences as a minority woman in technology leadership, experiences that are often present in daily professional life but rarely centered as a subject of serious scholarly inquiry. Knowing that your experiences are contributing to research designed to inform organizational practice, leadership development, and policy in the technology sector may also be meaningful. The findings of this study may ultimately benefit minority women in technology leadership more broadly by generating evidence that organizations and practitioners can use to build more equitable and inclusive leadership environments. There is no compensation or payment for participation. Risks: The primary risk is the possibility of mild psychological or emotional discomfort that may arise from reflecting on and discussing professional experiences that involve instances of bias, discrimination, marginalization, or professional challenge. You are not required to answer any question that makes you uncomfortable, and you may stop the interview at any time without penalty or consequence. If you experience distress during or after the interview, you are encouraged to seek support through your employer's employee assistance program or a licensed mental health professional. Beyond this possibility of mild emotional discomfort, the risks associated with participation are no greater than those encountered in daily life. Costs/incentives: There are no incentives or compensation offered for participation in this study. There are no costs to participants beyond the time required to complete the interview and the follow-up review of your written summary, estimated at between 75 and 125 minutes total. Access to Zoom video conferencing is required for participation; if you do not already have access to Zoom, a free account is available at no cost at www.zoom.us. Beyond the time commitment and the need for a reliable internet connection to support the Zoom interview, there are no costs associated with participation in this study. Confidentiality Your privacy and the confidentiality of your responses will be protected throughout all phases of this study. Although your identity will be known to the researcher during the recruitment and data collection process, your name and any other identifying information will never appear in the research data, the dissertation, or any presentations or publications arising from this study. At the time your interview transcript is prepared, you will be assigned a pseudonym, a fictitious name that will be used in place of your real name in all research documents. Any additional identifying details that appear in your responses, including the name of your organization, your job title, your geographic location, or any other information that could reasonably be used to identify you, will be removed or generalized in the transcript before analysis begins. A separate, encrypted master list linking your pseudonym to your real identity will be maintained by the researcher solely for the purpose of returning your written summary to you for review during the member checking process. This master list will be permanently and securely deleted as soon as the member checking process is complete and will not be retained beyond that point. All research files, including audio recordings, transcripts, consent forms, and the pseudonym master list, will be stored in encrypted, password-protected cloud storage accessible only to the researcher. A password-protected local copy will also be maintained on the researcher's personal computer. No video recording is made at any point; if you choose to keep your camera on during the interview, the video feed is used only during the live session and is never recorded or saved. The audio recordings will be permanently deleted following the completion and verification of each transcript. Only the researcher will have access to your identifiable information. Your de-identified data may be reviewed by the dissertation committee for the purpose of methodological oversight, but no identifying information will be shared with any other individual or organization under any circumstances. Use of information: The information collected in this study will be used solely for the purposes of doctoral dissertation research completed in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Doctor of Business Administration degree at Saint Leo University. Findings may also be presented at academic or professional conferences and may be submitted for publication in peer-reviewed scholarly journals following the completion of the dissertation. In all cases, your responses will be reported in aggregate and thematic form, meaning that findings will describe patterns and themes across all participant accounts rather than attributing specific statements or experiences to any individual participant. No identifying information of any kind will appear in the dissertation, any conference presentations, any publications, or any other documents arising from this study. All reported data will reflect the pseudonyms assigned at the time of transcript preparation, and any details that could reasonably be used to identify you, including your name, your organization, your job title, or your geographic location, will be removed or generalized before your responses are included in any research output. Your participation in this study will not be disclosed to your employer, colleagues, or any other professional contacts. The researcher has no affiliation with your organization and will not share any information about your participation or your responses with any party outside of the dissertation committee. Voluntary The participants may withdraw from the study at any time, or decline to participation participate, without any penalty. I understand that additional questions regarding the study, participant rights, or other concerns, should be directed to Sheri Bias at Sheri.Bias@saintleo.edu or “IRB Chair” at IRB@saintleo.edu “ for faculty and staff”.
