Women Painters of Washington is a vibrant group of established and productive artists. Participating in the activities listed below facilitates professional connections and networking within the group and the greater arts community.

Women Painters of Washington is committed to an inclusive and supportive environment that champions all women-identifying artists. 

We are an all-volunteer organization that depends on our members’ involvement to maintain the high level of programming and variety of exhibit opportunities that we are known for.

Women Painters of Washington Activities

• Women Painters of Washington (WPW) has a gallery in the Columbia Tower at  5th and Columbia Streets, in downtown Seattle. There are four three-month-long non juried exhibitions per year.
• Two juried exhibits in other locations statewide, and regional shows.
• Neighborhood exhibits in various parts of the state
• We have monthly meetings (Sept. – June) which feature guest speakers. These meetings are on Zoom, and in person at a museum or venue.
   

To be eligible to show your work in the WPW exhibitions, a member is required to remain “active & in good standing”, defined as:

1.     Serve on a committee, chair a committee, or serve on the board

2.     Attend two meetings per year (not required for new members to begin showing)

3.     Remain up to date on annual dues ($60)

4.  If your work is included in a WPW Columbia Tower Gallery show, you are required to gallery sit for 3-4 days during the run of the show in addition to your volunteer job.

We are an entirely self-funded group. Below are the costs involved in participating in our activities if you choose to do so.

Annual Dues: $60.00
WPW Columbia Tower Gallery shows: (open to all members) $30
WPW Juried show at other venues around the state: $45.00
Annual Spring Luncheon (welcoming new members, free to the new members) approx: $45.00
Annual Holiday Luncheon approx: $45.00

Upon acceptance, new members will be responsible for a fee of $100 to Women Painters of Washington. This covers the annual membership dues of $60 and a $40 initiation fee.

Applicants must be women-identifying artists of professional standing, living in the state of Washington. The concept, design, and execution of the artwork shall be solely that of the artist. Unauthorized use of any copyrighted images (including published photographs) will not be accepted. Acceptable mediums for eligibility are:
paints of all kinds, pastels, drawings, prints, encaustic, collage, and mixed media in 2D format.

Artwork submitted with your application should be A COHESIVE SERIES of your work. We are looking for a strong visual consistency and conceptual clarity.  

Applicants must have three (3) shows in the past five (5) years in two (2) the following categories:

• A regional arts center or museum
• An established gallery
• The professional division of an open juried/non-juried exhibition
  
  

Submissions must be solely the work of the artist. Work will NOT be considered if done under and/or critiqued by an instructor.

Artistic career emphasizing what you have achieved in the last five (5)years

Artwork Image Preparation

Five (5) jpegs images of:
A COHESIVE SERIES of work
    • Created in the past 5 years.
    • Take high quality, evenly lit photographs of your work.
    • Photos should be cropped; no picture frames, extraneous backgrounds are not visible.

 

Prepare jpegs to the following specifications:

Resize your image to 72 ppi (pixels per inch)
   • No more than 900 PIXELS in HEIGHT.
   • Label your image files using the following EXACT format:
      o LASTNAME_FIRSTNAME-_TITLE_MEDIUM__ HxWxD _YEAR.JPG
      o Photo file names cannot have asterisks (*), ampersands (&),number sign (#), spaces, or commas.
      o Dimensions to be stated in HxWxD (Height, Width, Depth) format.
      o No fractions or decimals.
