Thinking about building a challenge course, ropes course, zip line, or aerial adventure park?
Use this preliminary checklist to evaluate a potential location on your property before requesting a professional site evaluation from Challenge Design Innovations.

You do not need to have every answer. In fact, answering “Not Sure” is useful. It helps CDI know what needs to be investigated during the next stage.

This checklist is not a substitute for professional design, engineering, surveying, arborist review, geotechnical evaluation, or local permitting.

Preliminary project budget:
You may have a promising site if you can say yes to most of these:
- You have enough usable land.
- Participants can reasonably reach the site.
- Construction equipment can access the property.
- Emergency access is possible.
- Major drainage or environmental problems are not obvious.
- The site has suitable trees or enough room for poles or towers.
- Parking, restrooms, and participant staging can be provided.
- Local land-use rules do not appear to prohibit the project.
- The location supports how you actually plan to use the course.
- Your organization has a realistic path toward funding and approval.
A “No” does not necessarily mean your site will not work.

A steep hill, lack of suitable trees, wetlands, unusual terrain, or limited space can sometimes lead to a different design rather than eliminate the project. CDI has designed courses using trees, poles, towers, open terrain, and combinations of those systems. The professional site evaluation is where those options can be explored.
