The Year 9 and 10 Dance Academies are for students who are passionate about dance and want to develop their skills, confidence and performance ability.

The Academy provides an opportunity to build strong foundations in dance technique, performance, creativity, choreography, musicality and stagecraft, while working alongside other dancers who share a passion for dance.

What will you do?
• Develop strong foundations in dance technique and performance
• Build creativity, musicality and choreographic skills
• Grow confidence, discipline and stage presence
• Explore different dance styles and performance opportunities
• Develop collaboration and resilience
• Perform, create and challenge yourself
• Explore pathways into NCEA Dance, dance crews, productions, competitions and leadership

Who is the Academy for?
The Dance Academy is for Year 9 and 10 students who love dance and want to take their skills further.

Whether you have years of dance training or are developing your skills, the Academy will challenge you to grow as a dancer, performer and creative.

What are the expectations?
Being part of the Dance Academy requires commitment, focus, respect and enthusiasm.

Regular attendance and active participation are essential. Students are expected to challenge themselves, work collaboratively, respond positively to feedback and demonstrate a willingness to learn and improve.

Students are also encouraged to get involved in the wider Dance programme through dance crews, performances, competitions and productions.

Students must keep up with their work in all other classes and meet the school expectation of 90%+ attendance. Progress, commitment and participation will be reviewed at the end of each term.
