The Year 9 and 10 Music Academies are for students who love music and want to take their skills further. Whether you are a singer, instrumentalist, songwriter, developing musician or simply want to explore what you can do with music, the Academy is a place to create, perform, collaborate and have fun.
What will you do?
• Develop your skills as an instrumentalist and/or vocalist
• Build confidence as a performer
• Explore different musical styles and genres
• Write, create, arrange and experiment with music
• Develop your musicianship, music theory and aural skills
• Collaborate with other musicians and be part of an ensemble
• Develop creativity, resilience, independence and confidence
• Perform for audiences and be part of the wider school music community
• Explore pathways into NCEA Music, bands, ensembles, productions, competitions and music leadership
Who is the Academy for?
The Academy is for Year 9 and 10 students who are passionate about music and want to challenge themselves and grow as musicians.
You don't need to be an expert. We are looking for students who are enthusiastic, willing to learn and excited about making music.
What are the expectations?
Being part of the Music Academy means being part of a team. Students are expected to show commitment, enthusiasm, focus and a positive attitude.
Regular attendance and active participation are essential. Students will be expected to challenge themselves, try new things, respond to feedback and support the musicians around them.
Students must also maintain their progress in other classes and meet the school expectation of 90%+ attendance. Progress and participation will be reviewed each term.
