  • Welcome!

We're so excited you're here. We’re inviting children and young people to help shape what Barking Gecko Arts does in the future. Your ideas, experiences and creativity matter. You don’t have to be amazing at drama or art to be part of this. We really want to hear from young people with all kinds of interests, especially if you don’t usually feel included in arts activities.
  • There are no right or wrong answers. You can answer in a way that works best for you.

    You can:

    - Write your answers
    - Draw or upload a picture
    - Record a voice note
    - Upload a video

If you need help, a parent, carer or trusted adult can support you.

Please make sure your big person has seen all the answers to your questions before it's submitted.

    Safeguarding Your Child

Barking Gecko Arts is committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all children and young people. We actively promote the wellbeing, safety and voices of every participant, and ensure young people are respected, listened to and protected at all times.

Why are you asking for my child’s email address?

We offer children the option to include their own email address so they can feel included, informed and empowered as part of the Advisory Council. This is completely optional. All communication will always include the nominated parent or carer to ensure transparency and digital safety.

    Who will see the applications?

Applications will only be accessed by a small group of Barking Gecko Arts staff involved in delivering the program. All staff hold a valid Working With Children Check and follow strict privacy and safeguarding protocols.

    Who will attend Council sessions?

Sessions will be facilitated by Barking Gecko Arts staff and may include our Chair, the Hon. David Templeman MLA, and CEO Ryan Taaffe. All staff involved hold current Working With Children Checks and have completed safeguarding training. Parents and carers are always welcome to attend sessions, and remote participation can be arranged if needed.

How will you keep my child safe during sessions?

All sessions are supervised by trained staff, follow clear safeguarding procedures, and are designed to be respectful, inclusive and age-appropriate.

Where and when will sessions take place?

The sessions will take place at Subiaco Arts Centre which is located at 180 Hamersley Road, Subiaco, Perth, W.A.

We anticpate council meetings to take place once every second month however, participants will be notified of specific 2027 meeting dates later in the year once the groups have been confirmed.

How will you support children with additional needs?

We are committed to accessibility and inclusion. Please let us know your child’s needs and we will work with you to provide appropriate support.

What if my child feels uncomfortable or wants to withdraw?

Children can step away at any time. We encourage open communication and will always prioritise their wellbeing.

How will my child’s information be used?

All personal information is handled confidentially and used only for the purposes of administering the Advisory Council.

When will I be notified of the outcome of my application?

We will aim to notify all applicants of the outcome by Wednesday 16th December, 2026.
