For the safety of our participants, volunteers, and spectators—and to help ensure a fun and successful parade—all entries are required to follow the rules and instructions below.
1. Santa Claus
No Santa Claus impersonators are permitted on floats. The Culpeper Parade Committee is committed to having one and only one Santa Claus, who will appear on the final float of the parade.
2. NO CANDY THROWING
Candy may NOT be thrown from vehicles or floats.
Throwing candy creates a significant risk of injury to parade spectators, particularly children who may run into the street to retrieve candy. The parade takes place after dark and thousands of spectators, including children, will line the parade route.
If you would like to distribute candy, brochures, trinkets, or other items, organizations are encouraged to have members walk alongside or near their entry and hand items directly to spectators while maintaining safe parade spacing.
3. Maintain Close Parade Spacing
Drivers must maintain close spacing with the entry in front of them. Large gaps between entries make for a longer and less enjoyable parade.
With more than 225 entries, we ask all participants to keep the parade moving and as tightly spaced as safely possible. Our goal is to keep the parade moving efficiently and finish in approximately 1½ hours.
4. Have an End-of-Parade Plan
All entries should have a plan for where participants and floats will unload, decorate, and disperse following the parade.
Culpeper's side streets will be extremely busy, and returning to the Town Square may be difficult—especially for entries toward the back of the parade.
We strongly encourage organizations to identify a quiet area on the south end of town where participants can safely unload and disperse after completing the parade.
