In Hawaiʻi, more than 315,000 people—or one in four adults—have an arrest or conviction record. But an old record can create lasting barriers to jobs, housing, education, and other opportunities—making it harder for people who have served their sentence to rebuild their lives, support their families, and contribute to their communities.

We, the undersigned community members, are asking the Hawaiʻi State Legislature to enact a Clean Slate law to shield eligible records for people who have been held accountable for a past mistake and have remained crime-free for years.

We urge lawmakers to choose restoration over barriers, ensuring all our family members and neighbors have fair access to the jobs, housing, and education they need to support themselves and thrive alongside their ‘ohana.
