• PREMIERE - Survey on Practice Abstracts using the EIP-AGRI common format

    PREMIERE 5th Focus Group
  •

For over a decade, EIP-AGRI Operational Groups and Horizon multi-actor projects have been required to share their results and practice-oriented solutions in concise summaries, known as ‘Practice Abstracts’. Practice Abstracts are officially uploaded and disseminated on the CAP Network website using the so-called ‘EIP-AGRI common format’ to promote a more harmonised and practice-oriented way of sharing results.

The use of concise, easy-to-read summaries is a well-established technique for communicating research results in an everyday language that is understandable to a non-research audience. However, user feedback suggests that this potential is not being fully realised by Practice Abstracts currently prepared in the limited character, text-only EIP-AGRI common format.

The objective of this survey is to harvest your experiences, potential frustrations, and best practices regarding the preparation and use of the EIP-AGRI common format from the perspective of both EIP-AGRI Operational Groups and Horizon multi-actor projects.

The results of the survey will feed forward to a Focus Group developing recommendations on how EIP-AGRI Practice Abstracts can be better prepared and utilised as useful, impactful, action-oriented dissemination materials.

Your answers will be processed entirely anonymously and will be used solely to inform the findings and recommendations of Focus Group 5.

  • Read the document

    • SECTION 1: Respondent Profile & Stream Routing
    • 1. What is your primary role or affiliation in interactive innovation/multi-actor projects? (Select all that apply)*
    • 2. Which funding stream or project type are you primarily representing in this survey?*
    • Based on your choice above, you will automatically be guided to the section(s) relevant to your role (Section 2A for Horizon Europe, Section 2B for Operational Groups, or both). If neither applies directly, you will skip straight to Section 3 (Future Visions).

    • 3. Have you personally searched for or used a Practice Abstract produced by another project, and for what purpose.*
    • SECTION 2A: Practice Abstracts in Horizon Europe Projects
    • This section is designed specifically for coordinators/participants of Horizon Europe multi-actor projects and for those providing the enabling environment for multi-actor projects. Practice Abstracts (PAs) according to the common EIP-Agri format in Horizon Europe projects are uploaded on a project-by-project basis directly via a dedicated form on the EU CAP Network portal.

    • 4. How familiar are you with the Practice Abstract requirement in Horizon Europe?*
    • 5. Who is/has been primarily responsible for drafting/editing the Practice Abstracts for the multi-actor project(s) you are familiar with?*
    • 6. Are you aware that Practice Abstracts were reviewed and validated before submission?*
    • 7. Roughly how many Practice Abstracts have you personally drafted or contributed to?*
    • 8. How is the number of Practice Abstract typically decided in the Horizon Europe project(s) you are familiar with?*
    • 9. In your experience, what do Practice Abstracts primarily present?*
    • 10. Do you feel the current Practice Abstract format is appropriate for capturing the type of results produced?*
    • 11. In your experience, which output format do you find MOST useful for sharing practice oriented results?*
    • 12. Who has been your priority target audience of Practice Abstracts?*
    • 13. Has Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) affected the willingness to share project results?*
    • 14. What are/have been the biggest barriers to producing practice-orientated Practice Abstracts in the Horizon Europe project(s) you know well? (Select up to 5)*
    • SECTION 2B: Practice Abstracts in EIP-AGRI OperationalGroups
    • This section is designed specifically for those supporting and/or involved in CAP-funded EIP-AGRI Operational Groups (OGs). OG PAs are submitted through regional and/or national Managing Authorities via the SFC2021 system, which often places distinct administrative and technical constraints on the process.

    • 16. How familiar are you with preparation the Practice Abstract obligations by Operational Groups?*
    • 17. Who is primarily responsible for drafting and uploading the official Practice Abstracts for Operational Groups in your region/country?*
    • 18. In your experience, what do Practice Abstracts primarly present?*
    • 19. In your experience, which output format do OG members find MOST useful for sharing results with practitioners and advisors?*
    • 20. Who have been your priority target users of Practice Abstracts?*
    • 21. For managing authorities or CAP Networks experienced in SFC uploading: To what extent have the technical constraints of the SFC2021 uploading platform limited the Practice Abstracts?*
    • 22. Should the mandatory common format fields into the SFC2021 be simplified to focus strictly on actionable practice? Please select the fields you consider essential for ensuring the results can be understood, applied and acted upon in practice (Select all that apply)*
    • 23. Based on your national or regional experience, how are Practice Abstracts from Operational Groups currently used?*
    • 24. What are the main difficulties Operational Groups members are facing when producing Practice Abstracts?(Select up to 5)*
    • 25. Has Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) affected the willingness to share project results?*
    • SECTION 3: Future Visions
    • In this section, we would like to move beyond the current EIP-AGRI format for Practice Abstracts to explore what a next-generation of such a knowledge object should look like, and how to improve drafting, review and/or editing processes.

    • 27. Which of the following best reflects your view on the preferred format of a Practice Abstracts?*
    • 28. Should Practice Abstracts for Horizon Europe projects be differentiated from those of Operational Groups (e.g. different format, length, requirements)?*
    • 29. What type of quality assurance would be proportionate and useful?*
    • 30. Practitioners need to understand whether an innovation is feasible and worthwhile in their own context. Should a new form of Practice Abstracts,  therefore be required to include information on costs, economic benefits, productivity and sustainability?*
    • 31. Intermediaries (such as advisory service and CAP network teams) struggle to adapt and translate materials because of licensing barriers. Should standard Creative Commons licensing be mandatory for all submitted knowledge objects, including Practice Abstracts?*
    • 32. Should users of a knowledge repository be able to rank knowledge objects they have used (for example: good, neutral, poor or: Useful/relevant to me; I applied/tried this; Useful/relevant to me; I applied/tried this)?
    • 33. Should practice-oriented outputs meet minimum metadata and format standards to ensure they can be widely used e.g in vocational schools and training?*
    • 34. To reduce the administrative burden on project coordinators, would you support the use of AI tools (e.g., 'Farm Assistants' of the EU-FarmBook platform) to automatically extract structured keywords, titles, and/or summaries from your raw project reports?*
    • 35. To prevent contact information in published summaries from becoming obsolete after a project ends, which administrative solution would you support?*
    • 36. What would help project results to be more easily shared without the risk of compromising the intellectual property rights (IPR) or commercial interests? (Select all that apply)*
    • To help us design functional templates and guidelines during our interactive E-Workshops, we are actively collecting examples of practical outputs that move beyond simple text-only blocks (e.g., factsheets, instructional checklists, short videos, visual storyboards, or leaflets).
