  • In late September and early October 1776, George Washington and the Continental Army beat a retreat from Manhattan. Bested by British forces at the Battle of Brooklyn, the Continental Army saw a small victory at Battle of Harlem Heights, but it wasn't enough to reverse the tide. By November, the Americans had lost Manhattan completely.

This walk will follow the path that Washington and his retreating army took from what we today call The Upper East Side, through northern Central Park, and to the spot where the Americans routed the British in Harlem Heights (today called Morningside Heights).

PLEASE NOTE: This walk will cover approximately two miles of hilly terrain. While you don't need your hiking poles, we do climb up and descend numerous hills and staircases as we work our way across the park and into Morningside Heights. Due to the nature of the terrain, we will aim to end in two hours, but the tour *may* take slightly longer.

The starting and ending points are still being decided upon, but both will be near public transportation.

The tour costs $30 per person (plus a $3 processing fee).

  • Please select the number of people attending from the drop down (even if it looks like it already says 1 guest).*
