    • How do I know if my application has been accepted?
    • Once you have submitted your application, one of our team members will review your application to make sure that all files submitted are complete. You will know your application has been accepted via an email notification sent through JotForm.

If we have identified that your application is incomplete, you will also receive an email notitication. If applications are still open, you may make edits and resubmit.

    • How does the wait list work?
    • We recognize that complete submissions might still be sitting in the form inbox after the application has closed.

These submissions will be put on a wait list in the order they have been received. Artists will be notified via email if they are on the wait list.

If any Artists have decided to drop the program before October 15th, their spot will be offered to the first Artist on the wait list. Due to time constraints, Artists offered a spot on the wait list have 24 hours to claim their spot, from the time the email has been sent. If the spot hasn't been claimed, it will then be offered to the next person in line.

    • Who can Apply?
    • This opportunity is open to AUArts Alumni from any year and major, including part-time students. Students have already applied and gone through and are going through a longer version for the Show+Sale program.

  • Assessment Criteria

  • Evaluation Process:

Assessment Panel members will review each application and evaluate the following application considerations (Artwork Content, Artwork Documentation) listed below, based on the artwork images provided. The Assessment panel member will rate how strongly they agree to each consideration on a scale of: Strongly Agree, Agree, Disagree, or Strongly Disagree.

No score will be assigned to each rating, and the application will not be scored.

  • Application Considerations:

The following application considerations are what each Artist’s application will be evaluated on. Each has 2 key learning objectives that the Assessment Panel will be looking for when assigning their rating, these are:

     Artwork Content
The artwork submitted was thoughtfully selected and thus strengthens the Artist’s artist statement and their application overall Artwork marked as a prototype has a clear artistic and technical direction that would make it suitable for display and sale in a retail environment.

Artwork marked as finished appears polished, complete and is appropriate for display and sale in a retail environment.

    Artwork Documentation The photo documentation...
Enhances the artwork. It is photographed in smooth lighting conditions and has a non-distracting background or an appropriate environmental background (E.g. A necklace on a model)

Strengthens the Artist’s artist statement and their application overall

Is professional and appropriate for commercial use (E.g. online storefront) and opportunities.

While Show + Sale is very flexible with the work allowed to be sold at the Winter Market, we do have a some hard rules that we cannot be flexible with. These are:

    - At this time, Show + Sale does not qualify for a legal retail cannabis license, therefore all cannabis accessories such as pipes and bongs cannot be sold at the Winter Market. There are shops and dispensaries in Calgary that partner with artists to sell their work, such as FivePoint Cannabis that we encourage you to look into instead https://fivepointcannabis.ca/exhibit-with-us/

    - We do not allow works that use any racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, ableist slurs, imagery and hate speech. Including in the case of an artist using them in a reclamatory manner.

  • Please select all that you believe would apply to the work you are planning on selling at the Winter Market.*

  • Important Information

Estimated Time to Read: 3 Mins

Please refer to the Application Considerations and Evaluation Criteria section of this form for more information on how the Assessment Panel will be evaluating your Artwork Images.

The artwork you submit for this application does not have to be what you sell at Show + Sale! You may revise your inventory before the Sale begins. While we prefer to see artwork that is ready for sale, the Assessment Panel is happy to view work that has been created for class, has already been sold, or is a finished prototype of a new line of products.

There is NO expectation that students create a new set of artwork during the program. Our team will work with you to refine and adapt your existing art pieces for the Winter Market.

  • Please avoid the following:

    1) Fanart of photographs, celebrities, and characters you do not have copyright permission to. We are not accepting Fanart into the winter market this year, we want to encourage you to show off your own styles and inspirations, we will accept Original Characters created in pre-exisiting universes.

    2) Technical exercises. Consider only submitting work that is finished and showcases your personal style, and not just techincal school work (unless framed and prepared for selling).

    3) Unfinished work. Other than prototypes, we want to see polished work you are proud of!

    4) AI generated artwork. Show and Sale will not be accepting any art generated partially or fully by AI systems. AI Art sucks.

  • Please attach 3-5 images of your artwork here with the following naming format:

    image#_LastName_FirstName

EG. Juli Song would be 1_Song_Juli.jpg.
