Building a Culture of Ownership in Your Ensemble - with Theo Hicks

A strong ensemble culture develops when singers understand that their individual contribution genuinely matters to the whole. In this session, we’ll explore ways to help singers move beyond simply waiting for instructions and toward greater confidence, consistency, and responsibility in their own contribution. We’ll discuss how attendance, preparation, vocal technique, listening, and decision-making all shape the ensemble—and how directors can create an environment where singers trust their developing skillsets and contribute positively without needing constant permission or reassurance.
