I support the Columbia Postdoctoral Workers in their campaign for a strong contract that includes:
- A housing stipend that comes from Columbia’s central accounts and not from PI grants.
- An increased child care benefit, which is per child and not per family.
- Raises and minimum salary increases that come from Columbia’s central accounts and not from PI grants. The recent funding crises demonstrated that Columbia can support its researchers directly.
We know that CU has the economic resources to support researchers. Public disclosure forms show that Columbia continues to operate with a year over year increase in revenue.
Columbia can afford our contract.
Columbia’s finances are in extremely good shape, and indeed research is the core mission in which the university has the highest level of profits. We believe that investing a small portion of those profits in supporting us will have a massively positive impact on the research that we conduct.
