Backstage Builders Enrichment Registration

Want to be part of the school musical without being on stage? Join the Backstage Builders, a PTA-run enrichment class!

Students will get hands-on experience designing, building, and testing real props and set pieces that will be used in this spring’s school musical, Shrek Jr. They’ll learn stagecraft skills, creative problem-solving, teamwork, and what it takes to bring a production to life behind the scenes.

It’s a great opportunity for students who love theatre but would rather have a starring role behind the scenes. It can also help students build skills and explore an interest in technical theatre before moving on to middle and high school, where opportunities to join student stage and technical crews are available.

Their hard work won’t go unnoticed! Backstage Builders will be recognized as part of the official production crew in the musical playbill and will receive free tickets to see their creations come to life on stage.

Is Backstage Builders the Right Fit for my child?

Backstage Builders is a hands-on, collaborative class where students will be actively designing, building, and creating things that will actually be used for our production.

Because we are working with real projects and a limited amount of class time, we ask that students want to be part of the experience and are ready to participate, learn, and contribute each week.

This class is a great fit for students who enjoy making things, working with their hands, solving problems, being creative, and working as part of a team. Students do not need prior building experience—just a willingness to participate and try!

Optional Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Backstage Builders is a hands-on class, and we’d love to have parent help!

Build Helpers — Occasional Volunteers
We’re looking for parents who can lend a hand with specific projects throughout the session. You might help with building, painting, assembly, or design. Experience with power tools, woodworking, engineering, or design is especially helpful, but anyone with a willingness to pitch in is welcome! We’ll reach out when your skills or an extra set of hands would be useful.

Class Chaperone — Weekly Commitment
We are looking for one parent chaperone who can attend every class from October 8–December 17, except when school is not in session. The chaperone will help during class, provide an additional adult presence, and assist with projects and student needs.

In appreciation for this commitment, registration for one child of the chaperone will be waived.

The chaperone is responsible for:

Attending every scheduled class. If you must miss a class, you are responsible for finding a substitute.
Manage attendnace for students in class (check in and check out)
Managing the class WhatsApp group.
Assisting students in class as needed.
Communicating class information and school closure updates to families.
Helping field parent questions regarding attendance and other class-related matters.
