Grief is an embodied practice which means people use sound and movement to express. You will be around others (sometimes many simultaneously) who are crying, screaming, raging, wailing as they move with grief within the containment of ritual space. Some potential topics of people’s shares could be (and not limited to) around sexual violence, suicide, genocide, etc. How might that be for you? If you identify with neurodivergence and this might be a challenge for you, what accommodations might support you? (noise-canceling headphones, earplugs, standing on the periphery are all welcome)

$1100 Retreat Cost: This rate reflects the standard cost of participating in the gathering and helps cover the direct expenses of bringing the circle together, including facilitation, coordination, venue, food, materials, and other essential costs. Choose this rate if it feels workable for you without needing additional financial support.
$1300 Pay It Forward: This rate helps sustain the full costs of the gathering while also helping make lower-cost spaces available to others. If you have the capacity to contribute at this level, your participation helps widen financial access to the circle. Thank you for helping make that possible.
$900 Community Access: This lower rate is available for participants who need additional financial support in order to attend. Contributions from those choosing the higher rate help make this option possible. Please choose this rate if it meaningfully supports your ability to participate.

Financial Access: We believe the cost of this ceremony should not be a barrier if you feel genuinely called to this work. At the same time, registration fees help ensure that the facilitators, organizers, and the many hands that make this gathering possible are fairly resourced. We are committed to making this work accessible to a wide range of communities, particularly cash-poor and working-class people, and those engaged in community care, social movements, and frontline work. Djembe: Do you have experience playing djembe or holding rhythm in community? If so, would you feel called to support the drum team? We welcome hearing about both your musical experience and your relationship to the instrument itself. The djembe originates in the Mandé cultures of West Africa (including present-day Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, and neighboring regions), where it has long been woven into community life, ceremony, and oral tradition. Because it comes from a living cultural lineage, we invite reflections from those who approach it with humility, respect, and an awareness of its history, including the impacts of colonialism, the transatlantic slave trade, and cultural appropriation.
