The Wild Guardians are vital to the community-led Wild Tolworth Project, which has seen the creation of a thriving wetland ecosystem and the successful introduction of six Sussex cattle to Tolworth Court Farm Fields. This initiative has established a dynamic ecosystem within Kingston’s largest nature reserve, helping to restore ecological balance and create a healthier environment for both local wildlife and the community.
As a Wild Guardian, you will act as on-the-ground support for our local conservation sites and species projects.
- What you’ll do: Conduct both fence and cattle checks, assist with site maintenance, report observations, and help ensure our project site remains safe and thriving.
- What is required: No prior ecological experience is necessary, just enthusiasm for nature, a willingness to get hands-on outdoors, and a commitment to completing your volunteer duties.
The fence and cattle checks work on a rota basis. There are morning and afternoon slots each day to ensure that we are monitoring the site and cattle to a high standard. You sign up for the slots as and when you're available. We ask that Wild Guardians be available to join at least once a month.
The checks take roughly one to two hours and include checking the integrity of the fence and that the gates are locked, ensuring the bowser has water, the salt lick is in position, and the cattle are in good condition.
