Join us for a special edition of HonesTea to commemorate Orange Shirt Day, as we honestly explore the contradictions and nuances of being Muslim settlers on stolen Indigenous land.
How should we feel about our privilege from the status quo? What are our spiritual duties and obligations to indigenous lands and peoples? What are some parallels in how Muslims and indigenous nations view stewardship and khalifa? What do the indigenous peoples of Turtle Island need from us in this moment?
This event will feature a panel of notable speakers who will draw upon their expertise to engage this topic in an honest and productive way, followed by a Q&A period to address your thoughts and questions. (More info on speakers below)

This event is open to Youth ages 18-35.

Speakers:
Imam Yasin Dwyer: A Muslim scholar and chaplain at the University of Toronto, presenting lectures about the history of Muslims in the West and a variety of other topics. Imam Yasin was the first full-time Muslim chaplain to serve incarcerated Muslims in Canadian prisons.
Maysam Ghani: A Palestinian Muslim grassroots community organizer, poet, and educator specializing in First Nations, Métis and Inuit studies. Maysam works extensively on building solidarity between the Palestinian community and indigenous nations.
Maskwa Dawood Alexanderson: Maskwa is a Cree Indigenous Muslim, public speaker, da’wah worker, educator, and human-rights advocate with Justice for All Canada. He brings a unique and powerful perspective to conversations about colonialism, reconciliation, faith, justice, and human dignity.
