Learn how to build your own portable inkle loom, perfect for weaving on a tabletop or in your lap.
Attend the second day to learn how to use it to weave decorative narrow bands, one of the most ancient of woven textiles. Sign up for both sessions, or just one.
Inkle looms are designed specifically for weaving narrow bands, used for thousands of years for decoration, utility, and beautiful expressions of regional identity across all cultures of the world in the form of traditional dress belts, sashes, and headbands, laces, trims, horse reins, and bag and musical instrument straps.
Friday, October 23 | 6pm-9pm
During the Friday evening session, you’ll build your own loom from scratch using hand tools and common materials from the hardware store. You’ll learn to bore holes, assemble, glue, screw, and finish, leaving with a working loom and project plans for future builds.
Saturday, October 24 | 10am-1pm
During the Saturday session, you’ll learn the basics of weaving on your loom, including warping, making heddles, and reading patterns. You’ll have time to create at least one bracelet-length band and leave with practical skills for continuing to set up and weave independently.
If attending the Saturday weaving session only, you’re welcome to bring your own loom, or purchase a pre-built loom for $75.
