• Scuba Mask Fit & Buying Experience Study

Share your diving-mask fit, comfort, leakage, and buying behaviour in a 5–7 minute survey.
  • I’m an active scuba diver researching how divers experience mask fit, comfort and leakage. This survey is part of early-stage market research to understand the problem properly before deciding whether a new product is worth developing. You do not need to have problems with your mask to take part — responses from divers who are completely happy with standard masks are equally useful. The survey should take approximately 5–7 minutes. Responses can remain anonymous unless you choose to leave your contact details at the end for follow-up research. No facial scans or sensitive biometric information are being collected in this survey.
  • Consent

  • Are you aged 18 or over and happy for your responses to be used for this market research?*
  • About your diving

  • Which best describes your diving?*
  • Approximate number of scuba dives completed*
  • Approximate number of dives in a typical year*
  • Your experience with diving masks

  • Which mask issues have you experienced?*
  • How often does your current or most recent mask leak underwater?*
  • Has a mask ever seemed to seal properly on land or in a shop but leaked when diving?*
  • Does putting a regulator or mouthpiece in your mouth change the mask fit or seal?*
  • If you have experienced leaking or discomfort, where was the problem felt?
  • How many different mask models did you try before choosing your current mask?*
  • How many masks have you bought and later stopped using mainly because of poor fit, leaking, or discomfort?*
  • Roughly how much have you spent on masks that ultimately didn’t work well because of fit, leaking, or discomfort?*
  • For respondents outside the UK, please use an approximate GBP equivalent.
  • What did you pay for your current mask?*
  • Have mask-fit or leakage problems negatively affected a dive?*
  • A potential product concept

  • The next questions are about an early product concept. Please answer based on your genuine buying behaviour rather than whether you simply think the idea sounds interesting. Imagine a diving mask that uses a short smartphone face scan to create a fit personalised to your facial geometry, rather than relying solely on standard mask shapes. The aim would be to improve comfort and provide a more consistent seal, particularly for divers who struggle with conventional masks. This is an early-stage concept and has not yet been proven to perform better than existing masks.
  • How likely would you be to consider buying it if it were independently tested and included a fit/remake guarantee?*
  • Which benefits would matter most to you?*
  • What concerns, if any, would you have about purchasing a personalised diving mask?*
  • Would the availability of lower-cost replacement parts make this type of personalised mask more appealing to you?*
  • How comfortable would you feel using a smartphone to create a 3D scan of your face if data storage, use, and deletion were clearly explained?*
  • Where would you be most comfortable buying this product?*
  • What manufacturing or delivery wait time would be acceptable for a personalised mask?*
  • Pricing

  • For the following four questions, please think about the same personalised diving mask concept described above. Imagine: • a premium-quality scuba mask • a personalised fit created from your facial geometry • independent product testing • a fit/remake guarantee if the initial fit is unsuccessful Please answer based on what you personally would actually pay, not what you think somebody else might pay. The four prices should normally increase as you move through the questions — from ‘so cheap I would question the quality’ through to ‘too expensive for me to consider’. Please enter whole numbers in GBP (£). If you live outside the UK, an approximate conversion is fine.
  • At £249, how likely would you personally be to purchase if the product genuinely solved a mask-fit problem you experience?*
  • If a lower-cost personalised replacement component were available instead of replacing the full mask, what would you consider a reasonable price?*
  • Early product development

  • If this concept moved into prototype testing, would you be interested in taking part?*
  • If an early-access programme opened at an expected retail price of approximately £249, would you consider placing a fully refundable £20 reservation deposit to secure an early production place?*
  • Optional follow-up

  • This section is completely optional. Leave your details only if you would be happy to be contacted for a short follow-up interview or possible future prototype testing. Your contact information would only be used for research relating to this project.
  • Would you be happy to take part in a 10–15 minute follow-up conversation about your experience with diving masks?
