Clone of Tombstones Tell a Story 🎟️

Hosted by the Ellington Historical Society and Perceived Paranormal, this special talk and walking tour explores the tombstones of Ellington’s Colonial Era and early 1800s. We’ll look closely at the inscriptions, symbols, artistry, and materials used to memorialize our earliest settlers and uncover what these remarkable stones can reveal about the people and community that came before us.

From the mysterious winged death’s heads of the Colonial Era to the hopeful willow and urn motifs that followed, every detail has a story.

The memory is etched in stone. The stories are waiting to be discovered.

Tours leave the Nellie McKnight Museum promptly on the hour. Light snacks and beverages will be available to enjoy before and after your tour.

On a beautiful New England afternoon this October, the Ellington Historical Society invites you to discover the stories etched in stone by the men and women who helped shape our growing town. As Ellington emerged from a young Colonial settlement into a thriving community, its earliest residents built homes, raised families, established businesses, served their neighbors, and answered the call of the American Revolution. Their lives may have passed, but their memories remain, carefully etched into the stones they left behind.
