  • Organization Membership

Are you currently a member of a national rocketry organization? If you are a member of multiple organizations, with TRA being one of those organizations, please select TRA in the list below. Note that membership in a national organization is not required to be a Mentor, but TRA membership is required for FoRs.
  • Mentoring Background

  • Rocketry Mentoring Experience

Are you currently serving as a Mentor for a student rocketry team or club, or have you done that in the past? If so, please describe your involvement. Also indicate if your Mentoring experience is (or was) associated with the IREC.

  • IREC Previous Experience

Have you had previous involvement with the IREC? If so, please describe your role (e.g., Mentor, FoR or Volunteer) and the level of your involvement.

  • Mentor Support Preferences

  • Service as a Primary Mentor

Are you willing to serve as a Primary Mentor for a team that you are not currently involved with? A Primary Mentor would be involved with a team through the entire competition cycle and should possess significant high-power rocketry experience. However, service as a Primary Mentor is not a commitment to attend the competition. If you are willing to serve as a Primary Mentor, please describe the type of support that you are willing to provide and any limitations or conditions associated with your support.

  • Service as a Specialty Mentor

Are you willing to serve as a Specialty Mentor for a team that you are not currently involved with? A Specialty Mentor would support teams in specific areas but would not be involved throughout the competition cycle. Examples where Specialty Mentors are needed include SRAD motor design & testing (ACPC, hybrid or liquid), two-stage rockets, flight simulation, project management & scheduling, materials testing, electronics, fundraising, procurement of rocket components & motors, obtaining Visa’s, travel & shipping, social media, etc. If you are willing to serve as a Specialty Mentor, please describe the type of support that you are willing to provide and your relevant experience.

  • Flyer of Record Interest

Are you willing to serve as a Flyer of Record for a team that you are not currently involved with? A FoR shoud be TRA L3 certified, although some teams need L2 FoRs. A FoR should become reasonably familiar with the Team’s project through the review of progress reports, including the video review, and through other communications with the team. A FoR must also be able to attend the competition to support launch activities. A FoR may also support the team at test launches prior to the IREC, but this is not an ESRA requirement. Student teams are encouraged to cover out-of-pocket, travel-related expenses for their FoR. Please indicate your willingness to serve as a FoR and any limitations on your service that might apply.
