The Pacific & Asian Affairs Council (PAAC) is seeking proactive, compassionate, curious, and solution-oriented individuals to chaperone our 2027 Sister-State Study Tours to Okinawa (Japan), Jeju Island (Korea), and Ilocos Norte & Ilocos Sur (Philippines).
You must read the chaperone position description carefully before applying.
Chaperones are not simply adult supervisors; they are active partners in creating a safe, supportive, and meaningful educational experience.
This is NOT a paid position. However, PAAC will cover necessary program-related expenses, including airfare, lodging, ground transportation, meals, travel insurance, and scheduled activities. For chaperones selected from neighbor islands, PAAC will also cover necessary flights and accommodations for the required orientation on Oʻahu and flights to/from Honolulu for international group departure and return. Chaperones are responsible for personal expenses, including shopping and souvenirs.
This is NOT a free vacation abroad. Chaperones are expected to fully participate in the Study Tour program, remain engaged and available throughout the experience, take initiative, work collaboratively as part of the chaperone team, and put the needs of students first and foremost.
Educators from Hawaiʻi Department of Education (HIDOE), public charter, or independent schools, as well as other qualified adults, are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to educators currently employed at a HIDOE public high school.
Application Deadline: October 23, 2026
Interview Dates (if invited): November 19-22, 2026
