Career Start is one of the Queensland Government’s core funded vocational education and training (VET) programs, managed by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET).
Career Start provides eligible individuals with access to subsidised training, including selected lower-level vocational qualifications such as UEE22025 Certificate II in Electrotechnology.
Additional opportunities may be available in exceptional circumstances where an individual does not meet the eligibility criteria for a program, but circumstances indicate the objectives of the program will be met through a confirmed employment benefit. Additional opportunities will be considered on a case-by-case basis upon request by a prospective student. To learn more, prospective students can contact the department on 1300 369 935.
The information in this form is used to assess your eligibility and suitability for Career Start funding and to support the enrolment process. Your information may be disclosed to relevant Australian and Queensland Government agencies and authorised research organisations in accordance with Ausinet’s Privacy Notice.
Funding Eligibility
General Training Pathway
To access a subsidised training place under Career Start, a student must meet the following criteria:
- aged 15 years or older;
- not be a school student;
- permanently reside in Queensland;
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years
immediately preceding the individual’s enrolment (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not impact eligibility);
- not be enrolled in another DTET-funded qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, (foundation skills qualifications and self-funded/fee-for-service qualifications do not impact eligibility).
Under Career Start, an eligible individual may access up to two subsidised qualification places through either:
1 general training pathway qualification and 1 apprenticeship or traineeship; or
2 apprenticeships or traineeships.
If an apprenticeship or traineeship is completed first, the individual is no longer eligible to access a general training pathway qualification under Career Start. An individual cannot complete two general training pathway qualifications under Career Start. In addition, an eligible individual may access one subsidised introductory-level skill set, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.
