To Parents and Students:
Daniel Boyle graduated from Archbishop Ryan High School in 1987. His career path eventually led him to the Philadelphia Police Department. In February of 1990, Danny entered the Philadelphia Police Academy. After completing his studies, he was assigned to the 26th Police District at East Girard and Montgomery Avenues.
On February 4th, 1991, Dan reported for work and was assigned to a one-man patrol car. Dan stopped a vehicle he suspected was stolen and a moment later was shot in the head. Danny died of his wounds on February 6th, 1991.
The Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund was established at the suggestion of several of Danny's classmates. This scholarship fund helps families who may find the increasingly high costs of a Catholic education difficult, or impossible, for their children.
The Officer Daniel Boyle Scholarship Fund is open to all students, without regard to race, sex, national origin or religious beliefs. Our only intent is to help as many families as possible with their children's education.
A selection committee has been established and all scholarships will be awarded based on the financial need and merit of the applicants.
Sincerely,
The Boyle Family
