  • Part 2: Contraindications, Conditions & Aesthetic Treatments

  • Dental fillings, implants or braces are not a contraindication and need no GP letter. Because the Blend method can leave a metallic taste in the mouth, if you have a lot of fillings or metal braces the short-wave diathermy (thermolysis) method is preferred.
  • Important: If any contraindication listed below applies to you, treatment cannot be provided.

  • Total contraindications: do any of the following apply to you?*
  • Important: If any condition listed below applies to you, please do not book without first obtaining written permission from your GP confirming it is safe for you to proceed with electrolysis. Please bring this letter to your consultation. This protects your health and ensures we can treat you safely and with full insurance coverage.

  • Part 3: Post-Treatment Care, Acknowledgements & Signature

  • Post-Treatment Care

    Immediately after treatment

Hypochlorous acid spray, witch hazel and aloe vera gel should be applied immediately after treatment to cleanse, soothe, calm redness and help prevent infection. Continue applying hypochlorous acid spray and aloe vera gel for the next 21 days.

    Scabs & healing

To prevent irritation and the spread of infection, do not pick spots or small blood scabs which may appear a couple of days after treatment and depending on the skin, may take between 7 to 21 days to heal. Fine blood scabs are a normal post reaction response to the treatment, especially in the initial stages of having electrolysis. The fine blood scabs develop by the dry cauterized blood in the base of the follicle rising up through the follicle. Do not pick the area at all. Picking at scabs can cause permanent scarring. Light scabbing is a natural part of the healing process. When washing or cleansing use a gentle unfragranced cream cleanser or facial wash, never use soap on the treated area as this will further dry the skin. Gently pat the area dry to avoid dislodging any fine scabs or crusts. Do not use any irritating substances on the treated area until the skin returns to normal.

What to avoid (first 48 hours)

Avoid self tans, fake tans, tinted SPF or moisturisers as these can cause irritation to the skin; also avoid perfumes and perfumed body lotions. Avoid applying make-up to the treated area for 48 hours, and avoid applying soap or perfumed products to the treated area. Avoid products containing spicules (also sold as bioneedling, reedles or liquid microneedling) during your course of treatment. Avoid activities for 48 hours that stimulate blood flow following treatment, and avoid wearing tight or restricted clothing over treated body areas. Avoid saunas, solaria, sun beds, jacuzzis, swimming, gym, hot water in the treatment area and steam treatments, as these can also cause pigmentation to develop.

    Sun protection

Avoid direct sunlight or sun bed treatment. If you must go out in the sun, use a high protection factor sunscreen of at least SPF 50 (light emulsion, no tint and fragrance free only) to avoid excessive hyper pigmentation. Re-apply in the middle of the day. UVA and UVB can cause pigment marks to appear on the treated area, and wearing SPF 50 will help to reduce this quicker, developing an even skin tone faster.

    Between sessions / re-growth

Do not pluck, tweeze, thread or remove hair with wax or depilatory cream remover between electrolysis treatments, as this will interrupt the hair growth cycle. It is safer to simply trim any noticeable unwanted hair with scissors.
