• Welcome to the CJMEA High School Band and Orchestra Auditions online application for Sponsoring Teachers.

     

    Parts of the application process remain largely the same as 2025. Please read the following prior to completing the application.

    It is suggested that you wait and give time for all potential auditionees in your program/studio complete their application before starting this application for yourself.

    1) All student online submissions should have included an e-mail confirmation sent to the sponsoring teacher. (That's you!) If you did not receive an email for a particular student, please follow up with them to ensure they completed their online portion. You should do this prior to starting your online application. Feel free to email cjmeahsboauditions@gmail.com if you need to verify a student's application.

    2) Your student(s) already submitted their payments when they completed their online application(s). If your school prefers to write a check on behalf of your student(s), please contact president.cjmea@gmail.com for those instructions.

    3) Scan all the signature sheets for your student(s) into one document and have that document ready to upload with this form.

    4) As you already know, NJMEA requires that all sponsoring teachers complete a background check using InCheck and to share your NFHS certificate of completion in order to participate in Region/All State activities. Failure to complete these steps and have your completion verified by NJMEA prior to audition day will result in your students losing their right to audition. This includes anyone who will serve in your place as a substitute on audition day.     5) In order to remain in compliance with new insurance regulations, CJMEA is required to have teachers serve as rehearsal monitors for all events. As a sponsor, if you have a student or students accepted into an ensemble, you must attend at least one rehearsal or serve as backstage support at a concert to complete your sponsorship of these students. You will be asked to choose one of the events below:

    12/19 - Reading rehearsal for Band/Orch (9-12:30p or 12:30-4p)

    1/8 - Orchestra/Perc Ens rehearsal (5-9p)

    1/9 - Orchestra/Perc Ens rehearsal (9-1p or 1-5p)

    1/10 - Orchestra/Perc Ens sound check/concert (9-1p or 1-5p)

    1/15 - Wind Ens/Sym Band rehearsal (5-9p)

    1/16 - Wind Ens/Sym Band rehearsal (9-1p or 1-5p)

    1/17 - Wind Ens/Sym Band concert (1-5p)

  • Important information to review with your applicant/s

  • Students in CJMEA are given the option to perform in more than one instrumental ensemble. Read carefully about each option and consult your students appropriately. If a student needs to edit his/her choice, please have them individually contact cjmeahsboauditions@gmail.com with this decision no later than December 11, 2026.

    1) Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band Only - Selecting this option will only make you eligible for the Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band

    2) Orchestra/Percussion Ensemble Weekend Only - You will only be eligible for ensembles on the Orchestra Weekend. (This includes percussionists interested in Percussion Ensemble.*)

    3) Both Weekends - This option may place you into two ensembles if your audition places you highly enough.

    Example 1: A clarinet player selects the "Both Weekends" option and has the highest scoring audition. This student will earn a chair in both the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra.
    Example 2: A clarinet player selects the "Both Weekends" option and finishes tenth overall. This student will earn a position in one of the bands, but likely scores too low to receive a position in the Orchestras.

    *Percussionists will get placed into either an Orchestra or the Percussion Ensemble based on the needs of each group at the discretion of the audition committee.

     

  • Sponsoring Teacher Information
     
     
  • All sponsoring teachers must completely fulfill their judging assignments or duties as assigned by the Audition Chairperson or they will not be permitted to send students to audition the following year. These responsibilities now include attending a minimum of one rehearsal or backstage support at a concert. In case of an emergency, it is the sponsoring teacher's responsibility to see that a qualified replacement who is a NAfME member is present at the 8:00am pre-audition meeting and that the Audition Chairperson has prior knowledge of this situation. (A “qualified” replacement is a NAfME member who also currently teaches the same area of specialization as the sponsoring teacher and has completed the background check through NJMEA. This person may not also sponsor other students in addition to serving as a sub.) Student Teachers and Parents are not qualified substitutes.
     
    NEW: CJMEA is committed to supporting all students. If you have a student who requires one-to-one accommodations in accordance with their IEP or 504 plan for this event, please contact the Diversity & Inclusion Chairs at diversity.inclusion.cjmea@gmail.com by December 1st to discuss available support options.

  • Please use the following procedure to finish registering your students:
    A. If you've gotten to this point, your student/s must have already filled out the online application at www.cjmea.org. Upon completion of the application, students must print out the signature page and submit it to you. A separate application and fee is necessary for each instrument, however only one signature page per student is required.
    B. Make sure that each signature page has four completed signatures. Even a student who attends a private/magnet school must have a Principal's endorsement. Missing signatures will void a signature page disqualifying the student.
    C. All students must confirm their eligibility with their sponsoring teacher. Online applications submitted by students without teacher verification and without a corresponding signature page will be voided.
    D. Place all student signature pages in score order. Scan the pages as one document and then upload the document below.
