Schools taking part in The Starting Line can also get a snapshot of their teachers' confidence in building these capabilities. The short teacher survey mirrors the student survey and asks staff how confident they feel developing each capability in their students. Your results show where professional learning could make the biggest difference. Across schools, the results help us understand how teacher confidence relates to student confidence and capability.
The process is the same as for students. Teachers complete a short online survey and enter your school code. They aren't asked for their name or any other identifying details.
Teachers are asked a few background questions, such as their role and how long they've been teaching. We use these only for our national analysis, and they're never used to break down your school's results. Your school receives an aggregate profile of your teaching staff and their overall capability results, never individual responses or results by group. This protects the privacy of individual teachers, especially in smaller schools.
Teacher responses are due by Friday 4 December, the same deadline as student data.
1. What this is. The Starting Line is a free, national, anonymous survey of student capabilities conducted by Future Anything Pty Ltd, open to Australian schools. Submitting this form registers your school's interest in the Founding Round (Term 4, 2026). Registrations close Friday 20 November, and all survey responses must be submitted by Friday 4 December. 2. What happens next. Once you register, we'll send you a welcome pack to help you prepare, including information you can share with staff and families. From the week of 26 October, we'll send your survey links and your school's unique access code. Students will use this code (not your school name or details) to access the online survey tool.
3.What do we collect in The Starting Line?
From you: your name, role, school email address, school name and location, your registration details (year levels and approximate student numbers), and anything you choose to write in the open question.About your school, from public sources: school-level information published by ACARA (such as ICSEA value, sector and location). From your students, via the anonymous survey: your school's survey code - responses are collected against the code, not your school's name, and the code-to-school link is held separately by Future Anything; year level; optional demographic questions - gender, and whether the student identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander - each with a "prefer not to say" option; and responses to the capability questions. The student survey contains no free-text fields.
From your teachers, if you opt in to the teacher companion survey: your school's survey code; role (for example classroom teacher or senior leader); years teaching, collected in bands rather than exact numbers; gender and whether they identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, each with a "prefer not to say" option; and responses to the capability confidence questions.

We do not collect academic results, NAPLAN data, attendance records, behaviour records, or teacher assessments of students. No information collected can identify an individual student.
