POSITION SUMMARY:
Agha Engineering is hiring an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) to join our Transportation Roadway Group in our Houston, Texas office located at 1080 Eldridge Pkwy Suite 1100, Houston, TX 77077. The EIT will support the design and development of transportation and roadway infrastructure projects for public and private-sector clients. This position will work under the direction of a Professional Engineer and will assist with roadway design, plan development, PS&E preparation, quantity calculations, permitting and coordination, and preparation of technical deliverables. The EIT will work collaboratively with Project Engineers, Project Managers, and other disciplines to deliver transportation projects in accordance with applicable design standards, specifications, and client requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the design and plan production for general civil engineering on a wide variety of projects, including roadway and transportation PS&E analysis and design. Provide roadway design and PS&E development for projects with clients including DOTs, Counties, Cities, and private development.
- Develop and prepare roadway PS&E documents, including plans, profiles, cross sections, details, notes, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Assist with the design and preparation of roadway elements, including pavement improvements, curb and gutter, sidewalks, shared-use paths, driveways, intersections, medians, and other transportation-related improvements.
- Develop roadway geometric layouts and assist with horizontal and vertical alignment, typical sections, profiles, cross sections, grading, and related roadway design elements under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
- Assist with ADA/accessibility design and evaluate pedestrian and bicycle facilities in accordance with applicable standards.
- Coordinate roadway design with drainage, utilities, traffic, signing and striping, structures, surveying, and other project disciplines.
- Perform quantity calculations, cost estimates, and bid item development for transportation projects.
- Apply established engineering procedures, design criteria, standards, and specifications under the direction of a Professional Engineer.
- Prepare exhibits, calculations, reports, and other engineering deliverables.
- Support Project Engineers and Project Managers with project development, coordination, quality control, and technical deliverables.
- Assist with review of work prepared by other professionals and technicians as directed.
- Prepare/Review civil engineering scope of work for proposals, with a focus on drainage-related scope as needed.
- Engage with clients to build relationships and be involved in project-related production meetings.
- Perform other duties as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong or intermediate operating knowledge of MicroStation / OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
- Strong or intermediate operating knowledge of OpenRoads Designer (ORD) roadway design and modeling tools, including roadway geometry, terrain modeling, profiles, cross sections, and plan production.
- Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, problem-solving and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited university preferred).
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering FE Certification exam and obtained Engineer in Training certificate or looking to take and pass FE exam within 6 months of starting employment.
- 2+ years of civil engineering experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in transportation PS&E development.
- Valid TX driver's license and insurable driving record.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with TxDOT, City of Houston, and/or other Texas transportation agencies.
PREFERRED TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:
- Experience using OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway geometry, terrain modeling, profiles, cross sections, and plan production.
- Familiarity with the TxDOT Roadway Design Manual, Roadway Design Standards, PS&E requirements, and related design criteria.
