• Generis Consultant Application

Thank you for your interest in Generis.
  • We are grateful you are considering joining us in serving churches, schools, and ministries. We know your time is valuable, and we do not take lightly that you are giving some of it to us. This application takes roughly 45 to 70 minutes to complete. We ask for that much because we want our first conversation with you to be a meaningful one, built on who you are and not on a résumé alone. There are no trick questions here. We simply want to understand your experience, your relationships, your sense of calling, and how you think about generosity.

The application has three parts: some basic information about you, six written questions, and three short video responses. You are welcome to save your progress and return to finish later. Your responses will be read and viewed by a real person.

If you encounter any technical issues, please contact us at support@generis.com, 770-460-5665.

  • Written Questions

  • Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself. The next six questions help us understand how you think and what you would bring to this work. Specific examples serve you better than general statements. There is no required length; say what you need to say.
  • Question 1:
Describe the specific type(s) of organization(s) you would pursue as clients: tradition or denomination, organizational type, approximate size, and geography. Why do you believe there is demand in that segment right now, and what makes you credible to that audience?

  • Question 2:
Approximately how many senior pastors, heads of school, executive directors, or nonprofit CEOs would take your call this week? Then describe three of those relationships without naming the individuals: how you know them, how long you have known them, and what you have worked on together. Finally, describe how you have built your professional network over the past five years.

  • Question 3:
Describe a specific occasion when you personally asked an individual, family, foundation, or organization for a significant financial commitment. Include the approximate amount, how you prepared, who was in the room, and the outcome. If you have never asked someone for a gift, just say so.

  • Question 4:
Describe something you built that did not exist before you started, where no one assigned it to you and no one would have noticed if you had not done it.

  • Question 5:
Generis consultants are independent contractors compensated entirely by commission. New consultants typically generate little revenue in the first quarter and build over the course of the first year. Given that, describe your plan for your first twelve months and how you have prepared to ramp up in the role.

  • Question 6:
Because Generis consultants are expected to be fully committed to their consulting role, we want to understand what other commitments you may have. What is your current role, and what other income-producing, board, or ministry commitments would continue if you joined Generis? What is your realistic timeline to begin at Generis?

  • Video Responses

  • You are nearly finished, and we are grateful for the care you have put into this so far. The last three questions ask for short video responses recorded right here in your browser. Each response should be 2 minutes or less. We are listening for substance, not production quality. The camera on your phone or laptop is perfect. Please speak naturally rather than reading from a script. A single, unpolished take tells us far more than a rehearsed one.

  • Video 1:
Why does generosity matter to you, and how would you describe its foundation to a leader who has never given it much thought?

  • Video Response 1
  • Video 2:
Choose the scenario below that is closest to your background or the kind of work you would like to do within Generis, then record your response as though the leader is sitting across from you.

  • Video 2 Scenario*
  • A senior pastor tells you his church ran a capital campaign five years ago, it fell well short of its goal, and he is not convinced that outside counsel is worth the money. Respond as though he is sitting across from you.

  • A head of school tells you her last annual fund push exhausted her staff and barely moved the number, and she is skeptical that bringing in a consultant will change anything. Respond as though she is sitting across from you.

  • An executive director tells you his board has become disengaged from fundraising, that he has heard consultants deliver a plan and disappear, and that he does not see the value. Respond as though he is sitting across from you.

  • Video Response 2
  • Video 3:
You have identified an organization that you believe is a strong fit for the kind of work you want to do. You have never met its leader. You call the leader and get his or her voicemail. Leave a voicemail for this leader.

  • Video Response 3
