  • ART X ICON: The Masterclass is an annual platform spotlighting emerging talents in dialogue with an African legend. The 2026 edition pays homage to Ladi Kwali, who looked at what was immediately around her- the vessels in her household, the animals in her landscape, the knowledge passed down by the women in her family, the new tools placed before her- and made from all of it something that had not existed before.

    The open call is open to artists of all visual art disciplines. Ten artists will be selected to take part in the programme at the fair: a screening of the documentary on Ladi Kwali, the ART X ICON Talk, a guided tour of the exhibition “Ladi Kwali: Beyond the Vessel” with its curator, and a masterclass session. All 10 selected artists will receive an honorarium for their participation. To receive the grant, artists must hold or open a Zenith Bank account.

  • APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Artists of all disciplines within the field of visual arts (plastic arts, digital arts, photography, performance) are eligible if they currently live and work in Nigeria. Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old as of October 5th, 2026.


    Availability to attend the Masterclass during the ART X Lagos 2026 Fair Weekend (Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November) is required.


    Please attach 3 artwork images or video stills. Each image should have a resolution of at least 300dpi and a minimum size of 1500 x 1500 px (minimum 3MB). Kindly save each image with the following information: Artist Name, Work Title, Year, Media, Dimensions.
