• Petition Regarding Boonsboro's License Plate Reader Program

To the Mayor and Council of the Town of Boonsboro
  • We, the undersigned residents of the Town of Boonsboro, ask the Mayor and Council to discontinue the Town's use of automated license plate reader (LPR) cameras and not install or operate the LPR cameras included in the recently approved Axon agreement.

We recognize that license plate readers can be useful in law-enforcement investigations. However, we do not believe the benefits of maintaining an LPR camera system in Boonsboro justify its cost and the privacy implications of collecting and making searchable information about vehicles traveling through our community.

We ask the Mayor and Council to take whatever action is available under the Town's agreement with Axon to discontinue the LPR portion of the program, while preserving other police equipment and services under the agreement that the Town determines should continue.

  • By signing below, I am asking that my opposition to the Town's LPR camera program be considered as part of the public input received by the Mayor and Council regarding this program, whether or not I am able to attend or speak at the October 5 public meeting.

This petition is an expression of public opinion and is not a petition for referendum under the Town Charter.
