April 11-14, 2027

The Emerging Leader in Philanthropy Award was established in 2002 to recognize and encourage the accomplishments and contributions of people in the early-to-mid 40 year old range, and who have served as staff, donors and trustees in the philanthropic sector for no more than 7 years. This award recognizes an outstanding individual whose innovative leadership promotes philanthropy as a means of social change in Black communities and advances ABFE’s mission.

The Emerging Leader in Philanthropy Awardee will be acknowledged at ABFE's 2027 Annual Conference, "Harambee: Let's All Pull Together," on Tuesday April 13, 2027.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS & GUIDELINES:
1. Only individuals are eligible for nomination; current ABFE board members are ineligible.
2. Awardee must be in their early-to-mid 40's and have served as a staff member or volunteer of a philanthropic institution or a donor for no more than 7 years.
3. Awardee must demonstrate significant contributions to promoting effective and responsive philanthropy in Black and other disenfranchised communities and use of philanthropy as a means for advancing social change.
4. Awardee must demonstrate visionary or progressive philanthropic leadership and creativity.
5. Awardee will be acknowledged at ABFE's 2027 Annual Conference, "Harambee: Let's All Pull Together, Tuesday, April 13, 2027.
DEADLINE:

Please note that the submission deadline is Friday December 4, 2026 at 5:00PM EST. ABFE will notify you by February 12, 2027 regarding your nomination. Even if you aren't named an awardee of the James A. Joseph Lecture and Awards, we hope that you will join us at Harambee 2027.
