Local artists who can make regular use of a working studio in our 1414 Monterey building. 
 
What is provided: 
6 month rent free working studio  
$1000 materials stipend 
Studio visits with Mattress Factory staff and external guests 
Invitations to Mattress Factory events and special programs

November 9, 2026 – Call closes 
December 4, 2026 – Applicants notified  
January – June, 2027 (Residency 1)

FAQ: 
Will I have an exhibition at Mattress Factory? 
No, the residency is intended to support a period of experimentation and research.  
 
Do you provide housing?  
No, this residency is specifically intended for Pittsburgh area artists who already have housing.  
 
Will I have access to tools? 
Yes, the museum can support basic tool requests. Please reach out in advance if there is an essential tool need. 
 
Where will I work? 
You will have access to two rooms in the museum’s building on Monterey Street.   
 
Is the studio barrier free? 
Unfortunately, currently the studio is only accessible via stairs. We hope to address this in future calls. 

 

Are students eligible for this opportunity?
Currently enrolled students at the time of the residency are not eligible.
