The Ancient Philosophy Society for the Study of Ancient Greek and Roman Thought Annual Independent Meeting
15-17 April 2027 in Flagstaff, Arizona
Sponsored by Northern Arizona University
Anonymous review policy of the APS
· All papers are reviewed by an anonymous Program Committee selected by the Executive Committee to represent the range of interpretive traditions.
· The author's name, institution, and references pertaining to the identity of the author must be omitted from the paper, notes, and bibliography.
Paper requirements
· Papers must be written in English.
· Papers may not exceed 3,000 words of text (30 minutes’ reading time), exclusive of footnotes and bibliography. Longer papers will not be forwarded to the Program Committee; abstracts will not be considered for the program.
· Submission implies that the paper is entirely the author’s own unpublished work and that, where appropriate, the contributions of others are acknowledged.
· The APS aims for an institutional and historical balance in its participants, allowing submissions from those who have presented in the previous year but prioritizing those who did not.
· Decisions will be reached in January 2027 and authors will be notified by e-mail.
AI Policy: Submissions must be the author's own work. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of submissions is prohibited.
Formatting
· Papers may be submitted in MS Word™ or PDF (and PDF is preferred if untransliterated Greek is used).
· Because papers selected for presentation are collected and provided to meeting participants, please observe the following conventions: single-spacing, 1-inch margins on all sides, pages numbered, 12-point font for text, 10-point for footnotes.
Travel Prizes of $300 each
· The Diversity Prize: awarded to the best paper that is chosen for the program through the anonymous selection process written by a person from a group underrepresented in the discipline.
· The Emerging Scholar Prize: awarded to the best paper that is chosen for the program through the anonymous selection process written by a scholar who is either ABD or up to 6 years post Ph.D.
· Scholars may be considered for both prizes but can only be awarded one. Please self-identify in submission form, indicating whether you would like to be considered for the Emerging Scholar Prize or for the Diversity Prize.
APS Policies
· Those who participate in the meetings of the APS must both register and be members of the society. Membership information is available at the APS website (www.ancientphilosophysociety.org).
· The APS values diversity and particularly invites submissions from members of groups underrepresented in philosophy, including women, people of color, LGBTQI individuals, and people with disabilities. The APS conference is wheelchair accessible.
