• BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPTImportant Ground Rules & ExpectationsLand Of Illinois Parrot Rescue

  • Please review the following information carefully before submitting an adoption application. These policies are in place to ensure the safety, health, and long-term well-being of our parrots.
  • 1. No Smokers
We NEVER place birds in homes with smokers. This includes smoking or vaping anywhere—inside, outside, in vehicles, at work, or any other location. Smoke residue and airborne toxins are extremely dangerous to parrots.
  • 2. No Shipping
Birds are never shipped. All adoptions must be completed in person to minimize stress and ensure proper placement.
  • 3. No Adoptions to Minors
We do not place birds with minors. Parents or guardians may not sign adoption paperwork on a minor's behalf. The adopter must be the bird's primary caregiver.
  • 4. Not a Pet Store
We do not SELL birds. Adoption fees help offset medical care, housing, nutrition, and rehabilitation costs and do not constitute a purchase.
  • 5. No Breeders
We NEVER place birds with breeders of any kind, including hobby, backyard, or occasional breeding.
  • 6. Housing Restrictions
Macaws and cockatoos are not placed in apartments or mobile home communities due to space and noise considerations. Other species may have housing restrictions based on individual needs.
  • 7. Indoor Companion Only
All parrots must live indoors as companion animals. Outdoor aviaries or garages are not acceptable primary housing.
  • 8. Noise & Destruction Awareness
Parrots can be loud, destructive, and messy. Applicants must be prepared for screaming, chewing, feather dust, and property damage.
  • 9. Time & Social Commitment
Parrots require daily interaction, enrichment, and supervision. They are highly intelligent and social animals and do not thrive when left alone for long periods.
  • 10. Financial Responsibility
Applicants must be financially able to provide proper food, enrichment, cage setup, and routine and emergency avian veterinary care.
  • 11. Allergies & Household Agreement
All household members should be aware of and agree to the adoption. Any known allergies or sensitivities should be considered before applying.
  • 12. Landlord & HOA Approval
If renting or living in a community with rules, written permission to keep a parrot may be required prior to adoption approval.
  • 13. Home Checks & Follow-Ups

  • Land Of Illinois Parrot Rescue reserves the right to conduct home checks and follow-up evaluations to ensure the bird's continued well-being.
  • 14. Return-to-Rescue Policy

  • If an adopter can no longer care for a parrot, the bird must be returned to Land Of Illinois Parrot Rescue. Rehoming independently is not permitted.
  • By submitting an adoption application, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to all rules and expectations listed above.
