    Audition Application Form

  • GENERAL INFORMATION

    The Lone Star Youth Winds application process consists of this online application form and a $25 non-refundable application fee. Due date for this application period is Saturday, November 14, 2026.

    Eligibility Requirements: Active participation in a school band program or a letter of recommendation from your private music instructor if your school does not offer a band program.

    Audition Procedures and Preparation:

    • Audition music is pulled from instrument specific region etudes.
    • All auditions will be submitted as an unlisted YouTube video file.
    • If you are choosing to audition on an auxiliary instrument (Piccolo, English Horn, Eb Clarinet, Contra Bass Clarinet) you will need to submit an additional YouTube video on that instrument.
    • Memorization of audition music is not necessary.
    • Professional attire on the video is encouraged.

    Calendar:

    The Lone Star Youth Winds will employ a condensed schedule to only five rehearsals for each concert cycle. All rehearsal dates are mandatory to participate in the Lone Star Youth Winds. The only exceptions to this policy may include mandatory school or band events and will be cleared at the discretion of the staff and music director. Students traveling from more than 100 miles away may be given a first rehearsal attendance exemption consideration. Please check these dates before filling out the application.

    Note: The Lone Star Youth Winds rehearsal location will be at Byron Nelson High School. 2775 Bobcat Blvd., Trophy Club, TX 76262.

    In order to finalize your audition process, you must complete the application form with the video link and process your audition fee using PayPal. All information exchanged during this process is encrypted and secure.  You may complete the PayPal payment process using a debit or credit card as a “guest” if you have not registered with PayPal.

    2026-2027 Season Tuition Obligations: 

    $475: Season Tuition, 2 Concert Cycle performances in DFW (assistance available as needed)

    Note: For those applicants offered and accepting a position with Lone Star Youth Winds, a $475 tuition payment will be required to secure the student musician’s place in the ensemble. Season tuition assistance may be available for those who qualify. Students who have not completed payment by the December 12, 2026 deadline will be notified their position is being filled by an alternate musician.

    Results:
    Invitations to join the Lone Star Youth Winds will be sent out via email.

    I hereby consent to be photographed and recorded (sound and video) for the Lone Star Youth Winds. The resulting photographs, audio, and video recordings may be subsequently used without compensation to me by the Lone Star Wind Orchestra or third parties for publications (induding web sites), advertising, and/or publicity purposes at the discretion of the Organization. I waive the right to inspect or approve the finished photograph and/or recording and/or publication use. This release form will be kept on file.

      Note: As of 11/29/25, full tuition assistance spots are no longer available. Partial tuition assistance is possible but not guaranteed.  

      • Students requesting tuition assistance must complete the required tuition assistance fields displayed below to be considered.

      • Students must be in good academic and behavioral standing at their respective school(s).

      • Students who are awarded tuition assistance must agree to abide by all policies and LSWO guidelines regarding attendance, preparation, etc.

      • The LSWO has limited funds available for tuition assistance.  Requesting tuition assistance does not guarantee acceptance.  The LSWO does not discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, religion, familial status or national origin.

    • Rehearsal Date Conflicts: Please select any dates you have a known confirmed conflict. Consideration for excused rehearsals includes the following: extensive travel distance (first rehearsal only), solo and ensemble, required band/school event (please use next box to explain). Students with significant rehearsal conflict may not be considered for membership at the discretion of staff and music director. If no conflicts, leave blank.

    • VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSION

    • **Video must be recorded with the applicant visible and must include all bracketed etude cuts for your instrument!**

      NOTE ABOUT VIDEO PRESENTATION:
      You may record and splice together three separate etude videos into one. You may also just submit one continuous take. Either way, please submit the etudes in order.

      Please do not speak during the video or do anything that might give away identity. The video will be used by the audition monitor to verify identity. However, the judges will only hear audio to ensure a fair audition.
       
      Video may be recorded with any device/app/program the applicant prefers, but most applicants choose to use their cell phones. Videos must be accessible through an internet browser via a sharable/clickable link to a video platform like YouTube/Vimeo or a document server like DropBox/Google Drive. Please see the following suggested submission methods:
       
      Upload the video to YouTube:
      Using a free YouTube account, click the “upload” button in the top right corner, and choose your video file to upload. While it is uploading, follow the prompts to title the video, using the applicant’s name and instrument. When choosing the “visibility” setting, please choose “unlisted” if you do not want the video to be public. Once the video has been published, copy & paste the video link in the space below.
       
      Upload the video to Dropbox:
      Using a free Dropbox account, upload your video file. Make sure the file name includes the applicant’s name and instrument (i.e. JaneDoeClarinet). Once the video has been uploaded, click “Share.” In the share window, click “create link” in the bottom right corner of the share window. Then, copy & paste the link in the space below.

    • By signing, you certify that the information provided in this application is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge and you are the person completing this application.  You certify you have read, understand, and agree to comply with the Health and Public Safety Guidelines and Expectations.  You also certify you have read, understand, and confirm your consent to the photography, audio, and video recording release.
