  • SAFETY POLICY

    - The fencing floor is restricted to fencers only. Non-participants must stay in the observation area

    - Fencing weapon must be carried with points down or in a fencing bag
    - Any illness, injury, or medical problems must be reported to the instructor before lesson/practice starts, or during the stay of New York Fencing Academy (“NYFA”)
    - Warm up and stretches are required before a lesson or practice. Arrive 15 minutes early for it
    - Rough play or dangerous actions are prohibited whether intentional or not
    -Walking or standing close to the fencers when blades are raised or in motion is prohibited
    - Mask, glove, fencing jacket, knickers, plastron, breast plate for female, and athletic shoes must be worn when fencing
    - Any person not abiding by NYFA rules may be subject to expulsion

    MEMBERSHIP POLICY:
    - Membership starts from the date you sign the Club Registration form and payment is received. Annual membership ends every August 31st.
    - To be considered a member, you must pay on an annual or monthly basis.
    - Membership fees are non-refundable.
    - Membership packages cannot be prorated. All missed classes and lessons must be rescheduled by Members per our Cancellation Policy or be forfeited.
    - Additional Family Member Rate is applicable to younger family members only when oldest family member pays First Member Rate.
    - Strip coaching may be provided for a fee. If at least 6 fencers and a strip coach attend, the mandatory fee will be $75 for drivable events, $100 for events where coach must drive and stay overnight, $165 for Nationals/NACs. If fewer than 6 fencers attend, strip coaching can be requested and fees must be determined and agreed upon prior to the event.
    - If two NYFA members are competing against each other in same competition, they cannot be strip coached by any coach or friend from any club.
    - NYFA members must represent NYFA as their primary club on their USA Fencing registration, at any USFA-sanctioned competitions, on askfred.net entries.
    - NYFA members must wear NYFA uniform or NYFA patch at competitions.

    PAYMENT POLICY:
    - Invoices will be sent 1 week in advance of each 9-week session. Invoices will be based on your previous session unless you notify us in advance of any changes you wish to make to your schedule.
    - Full Session invoice is due 14 days from invoice date by credit card, cash or check.
    - Due to rising costs and in order to keep our prices low, customers opting to pay with credit or debit card will see a small Non-Cash Charge or 2.5% towards processing fees. Cash or check payments require no additional fees.
    - Automatic credit card payments for full sessions may be requested in writing on the NYFA Payment & Credit Card Authorization Form.
    - Late Fees & Penalties: After 14 days, a $50 late fee will be incurred, and after 30 days, practice privileges will be suspended until the full balance plus accrued late fees are received.

    CANCELLATION POLICY:
    - 24 hour advance notice is required for all cancellations and you must schedule a substitute time within the current session with the coach. Otherwise you will be charged for the missed lesson.
    - Less than 24 hours notice is allowed for medical reasons only and you must schedule a substitute time within the current session with the coach. Otherwise you will be charged for the missed lesson.
    - If you miss 2 lessons in a row you may lose the spot in the coach’s schedule, the club is not obligated to provide a make up and you will be charged for the missed lesson.
    - It is your responsibility to request a make up and pay for the missed class/lesson. Your option to schedule a make up will expire after the current session.
    - There are no make-ups for FREE classes.
    - If you miss your make up for any reason, there will be no make ups for that appointment.
    - All prepaid classes must be used within the current session. If a class is missed in the last 2 weeks of a session, you may schedule make-ups within the next session. There will be no refunds for prepaid services, except in special circumstances.

    PHOTOGRAPH, SOUND, VIDEO RELEASE: I hereby give NYFA my permission to use photographs, video, sound of the adults and minors named on this form for publicity, promotion, news releases, videos, and web use of NYFA. This might also apply to the written composition or visual art of the minor if it is published. I hereby release and discharge NYFA from any and all claims arising out of the use of the photographs, video, sound that I or the minor child(ren) listed may have in this regard. I have agreed to this photograph, video, sound release form and understand and agree with the purpose of this permission.

    WAIVER OF LIABILITY: I represent that I am in good physical condition and have no physical or mental health problems that will preclude or inhibit my participation in fencing activities. I hereby agree to abide by the rules of NYFA and the USA Fencing Association and assume full responsibility for all actions during and in connection with the training and understand it is my responsibility to obtain my own medical insurance coverage. I understand and appreciate that participation in a sport carries a risk to me of serious injury, including permanent paralysis or death. I voluntarily and knowingly recognize, accept and assume the risk resulting from injury, accidents, illness, death, or other mishap that may occur while participating in NYFA programs. I hereby release New York Fencing Academy (NYFA), Mykhaylo Mokretsov, their instructors, coaches, staff, and owners from any liability.

    CONSENT FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT: This is to certify that I hereby give my written consent to NYFA and its representatives for myself and/or any person for whom I am signing this document to obtain medical care at my expense for any injury or illness that may arise during any activities associated with NYFA.
