On 2 October 2026, the Australian Government changed the rules governing who can apply for and be granted a Student visa while in Australia. The changes do not affect every student.
This bursary is intended for current ALG international students whose:
- current visa expires before their expected course completion date; and
- individual circumstances require them to travel outside Australia to lodge an application for another Student visa (subclass 500).
If you are required to apply from outside Australia, you must leave Australia before lodging your application and must also be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
Before applying for this bursary, check your current visa details and expiry date through VEVO and compare them with your expected course completion date.
ALG cannot provide immigration advice or determine which visa application you should make. Before changing your study arrangements, making travel plans or lodging a visa application, you should obtain advice from a registered migration agent or Australian legal practitioner.
Supporting Evidence
You must provide:
- evidence that you travelled outside Australia; and
- confirmation from the Department of Home Affairs or ImmiAccount showing that you lodged your Student visa application from outside Australia.
The dates in your supporting evidence must show that you lodged your Student visa application after leaving Australia.
Assessment and Bursary Value
Applications are assessed individually and are subject to eligibility, supporting evidence and approval under ALG’s applicable policies. Approval is not automatic.
If approved, ALG will apply a credit of up to $1,000 towards your tuition fees for your next term.
