• Minnesota PGA Assistant's Chapter Education - Chat with an Expert: Business Planning

    Tuesday, November 10,2026 - 10:00AM-11:00AM (Virtual)
  • Business Planning

Join us for an interactive discussion focused on the fundamentals of business planning within the golf and club industry and how professionals can use the planning process to make better decisions, establish priorities, and prepare their operations for the future. This session is designed specifically to give PGA Associates an opportunity to ask questions and learn directly from two experienced General Managers about how business plans are developed and, more importantly, how they are actually used within a club environment.
  • Patrick Markley – General Manager, North Oaks Golf Club

A University of Wisconsin–River Falls graduate, Patrick's career has included experience at Fishers Island Club, Flint Golf Club, and Barton Hills Country Club prior to his current role at North Oaks Golf Club. He will provide insight into how club leaders approach strategic planning, budgeting, goal setting, and translating the broader direction of the club into actionable plans for individual departments.

Jonathan Abbott – General Manager, Minnesota Valley Country Club

Jonathan brings experience from a variety of club environments, including Legends Golf Club, Northfield Golf Club, Windsong Farm Golf Club, and Golden Nugget Lake Charles prior to his current position at Minnesota Valley Country Club. His background provides another perspective on developing plans that reflect the needs, resources, and long-term objectives of different facilities. The discussion will be conversational and driven by questions from attendees, covering topics such as identifying goals and priorities, budgeting and forecasting, SWOT analysis, measuring performance, presenting a plan to club leadership, gaining stakeholder support, and adjusting a business plan when circumstances change.

A Google Meet link will be provided 1-2 days prior to the event.
