Confirmation: pours into our souls the power of the Holy Spirit and his seven gifts - just like the Apostles received at Pentecost. Confirmation is, therefore, the sacrament most closely identified with the special outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
If baptism is like a seed of Divine life in the soul, then Confirmation makes that seed come to full bloom.
"In Baptism we are made God's family, in Confirmation we are made for mission."
5 Effects of Confirmation
- It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation which makes us cry, “Abba! Father!”
- Basically, when you were baptized you were made into a son or daughter of God. A true child of God. Confirmation unites you even more deeply to God as your adoptive Father.
- Unites us more firmly to Jesus Christ.
- Increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us (wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of God)
- Renders our bond with the Church [the Body of Christ] more perfect.
- Gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross.
