  • 2027 Youth Championship Tournament Rules

    Greater Pittsburgh USBC

    1. This tournament consists of Doubles and Singles. Bowlers may enter either event or both. Events are conducted in applicable average classes. Scratch Division is optional, must be selected, and is included in the $25 per bowler per event fee.
    2. Open to current GPUSBC Youth members and Non-GPUSBC Youth members. Unsanctioned bowlers must pay the $30 affiliate membership before competing and use a 220 average.
    3. This tournament will be USBC certified; USBC rules apply to disputes not covered by these rules.
    4. Entries and re-entries are accepted through the final squad January 17, 2027, subject to space. Bowlers may enter as many times as space allows, in Singles, Doubles, or both.
    5. A bowler may cash only once in Singles and only once with the same partner in Doubles. A new entry must be completed and paid before bowling.
    6. Use the highest previous winter USBC league average with at least 21 games; if none, the highest previous summer USBC league average with at least 21 games; if neither exists, the highest current USBC league average as of November 1 with at least 12 games. All others use 220 and bowl scratch.
    7. If the current average at bowling is 10 or more pins higher than the entering average, use the higher average (USBC Rule 319a-2).
    8. Handicap is 100% of the difference between entering average and top of class, calculated on a three-game series. Top divisions use 440 for Doubles and 220 for Singles.
    9. Improper conduct may disqualify the score. Clothing must have no holes or tears and cover undergarments. No midriffs or low-cut or revealing clothing. Shirts must have sleeves. Full-length pants, capris, skirts, skorts and shorts are permitted; skirts, skorts and shorts must be no more than three inches above the knee. Tournament management has final say on acceptable attire. No electronic devices may be worn during competition.
    10. A first attire/equipment offense results in a verbal warning and required change or equipment removal. Failure to comply disqualifies scores and removes the bowler from competition.
    11. All prize fees are awarded 100% as scholarships placed into the winner’s SMART account.
    12. Each bowler must verify their average, regardless of who submitted it. Incorrect averages may result in disqualification. The Tournament Director verifies and corrects averages after the tournament before prizes are paid.
    13. Late bowlers receive zero for missed frames once competition starts, with the exception of restroom use. See USBC Rule 4e for injury/disability average relief.
    14. Report 30 minutes before the squad. Substitutions must be made at least 30 minutes before bowling. After bowling begins, the substitute bowls all games associated with the Minor event. Entry fees are not refunded. Late bowlers begin in the current frame with zeros for missed frames.
    15. Tournament Director/GPUSBC Tournament Committee decisions are final unless appealed under USBC Rule 329. If the tournament ends prematurely, all prize money, guaranteed or otherwise, is prorated based on the entrants who have bowled.
    16. Entrants or authorized replacements agree that the GPUSBC Tournament Committee’s liability is limited to returning fees when bowling is prevented by delays, unexpected necessary schedule changes, or premature termination due to war, national emergencies, fires, strikes, lockouts, labor difficulties or other causes beyond its control.

Make checks payable to Greater Pittsburgh USBC. Mail entries to P.O. Box 307, Homestead, PA 15120.
